zerinus - several questions from the Introduction to the Book of Mormon.
Fire on! Glad to be of assistance.
- Was Mormon a man or supernatural/divine?
Mormon was a man, and a prophet of the Book of Mormon people in their time.
Yes he did.
- Was his son, Moroni, a man or supernatural/divine?
He was also a man, and a prophet in his time like his father had been.
- Moroni was given the plates to hide on the hill Cumorah. He (the same Moroni) later appeared to Joseph Smith, and Moroni was then a resurrected and glorified being. Did he die after being given the plates and before appearing to Joseph Smith?
Moroni had been a prophet of the Book of Mormon people who had lived around 400 AD. He was responsible for completing the abridgment of the Book of Mormon commenced by his father Mormon, and burying in the hill Cumorah as commanded by the Lord, before his death. He appeared to Joseph Smith as a resurrected being and an angel to instruct him about his mission to translate the book by the gift and power of God, and show him where to find it.
Are there other accounts of beings being resurrected and glorified other than Moroni and of course Jesus Christ?
Yes; the scriptures tell us that after the resurrection of Jesus Christ, other ancient saints were resurrected. Here is a quote:
Matthew 27:
50 Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.
51 And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;
52 And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose,
53 And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.
What is the difference between the glory and resurrection of Jesus Christ and Moroni?
The nature of the resurrection is the same. All are resurrected with the same bodies that they died with, as Jesus was. We also know that some will inherit a greater glory than others. But what the difference is between his resurrected āgloryā and that of Jesus, I have no idea.
- Are all tribes of all of the Americas descendants of the āprincipal ancestorsā the Lamanites? Such as the Cherokee, Mayan, Navajo, Aztec, etc.
It is assumed that that is the case, although nothing is known for certain.
- Archaelogists state that Mesoamerican history emerged in 2000 b.c. How could the Lamanites be the āprincipal ancestorsā if they arrived 1400 years after the emergence of the people of Mesoamerica?
From my point of view religion is a matter of faith, and scientific or archaeological evidence does not come into it. If you intend to go down that rout, I am not terribly interested in the discussion.
- The Book of Mormon states āThe record gives an account of two great civilizations. One came from Jerusalem in 600 b.c., and afterward separated into two nations, known as the Nephites and Lamanites. The other came much earlier when the Lord confounded the tongues at the Tower of Babylon. This group is known as the Jaredites. After THOUSANDS OF YEARS, (emphasis mine) all were destroyed except the Lamanites, and they are the principal ancestors of the American Indians.ā
Please explain the timeline:
600 b.c. + thousands of years = has not happened yet
You put the timeline where you like. The Jaredite people emigrated to the American continent at the time the Lord āconfounded the language of the people,ā as recorded in the book of Genesis (11:7-9). They were destroyed shortly before Lehi and his family emigrated around 600 BC. So I donāt care where you put the timeline as long as this order of events is observed.
By the way, you are asking too many questions already before you have even read the Book of Mormon! When you have read all of it, many of your questions will have been answered, and then you will be able to focus on more significant questions.
