No, Mormons aren’t Christians, and I don’t understand why they try so I hard to make people believe that they are. Even when I was active LDS, I knew Mormon doctrine conflicted with mainstream Christianity.
Exactly. I always knew LDS doctrine conflicted with Christianity and it never bothered me that I wasn’t Christian. I understand why LDS leadership wants to morph their church into a mainstream Protestant denomination. But it is, in a way, insulting to Mormonism’s roots to try and look Christian (in addition to it being insulting to Christians).

you are in a difficult situation. how long have you been catholic? I was wondering about how educated some Mormons are in the actual theology of Mormonism and all of the doctorines and beliefs.
Technically, Catholic only since Easter. Been working on my stripes for about two years.

My experience is that the general Mormon population only knows the mainstream public stuff. So, the many different visions, explicit details about Kolob and/or the eternal progression, depth of thei history/theology, etc. they do not know. Seems they only know the Families are Forever, about the three levels of heaven (no specific knowledge about the merits that get you one or another outside “God’s judgement”), church is a restoration, they have only “truth”. But all from that high-level, minimal-thought perspective. Told to pray, read BoM, and other touch-feely experiences to get their “testimony”, supposed to be a witness of the Holy Ghost that the church is true. So, once they have their “testimony”, they are done, got all they need, now it’s just doing the Good Mormon stuff like tithing, church attendance, and temple work.

…and dropping off Christmas goodies to their assigned households!

Off topic, but just thought I’d share that a friend of mine that is inactive in the LDS Church has asked me to go to a Mass with him. He had asked if I was at midnight Mass, but I was at work, then he asked if I wanted to go to midnight Mass on New Year’s Eve (;)). So, next Sunday we’ll be going to Mass at the cathedral. We could go to one of the daily Masses, but I think he should experience the “full” Mass, with all the readings, parts, incense, bells, etc for the first time. He’s never attended Mass before, and his only real exposure to Christianity is Mormonism and I think he went to an Evangelical church with a friend once. I think he’s just curious at this point, but you never know!

No pressure of course, though I think I’ll mention briefly the Real Presence, how I feel connected to ancient/primitive/New Testament Christianity at Mass, and any questions he comes up with.

👍

👍 God bless! It is your attitude and your words on the Real Presence etc which can make a difference - sooner or later.

Just wonderful! God bless your friend!

my place of employment has many Mormons. they definitely stick together and I feel like an outsider. they are nice enough, but I can’t help but have the feeling that they can’t allow themselves to get too close to other who are not Mormons. we also live in a neighborhood that many Mormon families live in and they are friendly, but you definitely get the feeling that they look at you as an outsider.

so it has been interesting to read on this thread about what they really believe.

do they think joseph smith was the last prophet then after mohammed? that is, if we believe mohammed was a prophet.

it sounds a lot like l ron hubbard material when you read about different planets,** etc.
I just finished reading Lawrence Wright’s book GOING CLEAR Scientology, Hollywood & the Prison of Belief.
amazon.com/Going-Clear-Scientology-Hollywood-Prison/dp/0307700666

Wright compares Scientology & L .Ron Hubbard to LDS & Joseph Smith.
