Is it okay to receive morphine when in a serious accident and why
Can you tell us why you think it **wouldn’t **be? What commandment would you break? Is it okay to receive morphine when in a serious accident and why
doctors know best.Is it okay to receive morphine when in a serious accident and why
Many doctors will recommend abortions or euthanasia. Not related to the OP’s issue, but still I’m not sure I’d agree with that statement.doctors know best.
yeah I was thinking the same thing. Way too broad a statement lol. Many doctors will recommend abortions or euthanasia. Not related to the OP’s issue, but still I’m not sure I’d agree with that statement.
haha, I meant illicit drugsI don’t believe drugs are gravely sinful. If you are a diabetic you should take your insulin as prescribed. The action of abusing drugs, now that may be gravely sinful.
Therapeutic drugs, properly prescribed are not sinful. There is no teaching against drugs that alter your state of mind, if they are medically needed. This includes pain killers such as morphine, sedatives, anti-psychotic drugs, anti-depression drugs, etc.I guess I was thinking along the lines of the end not justifying the means, with the end being relieving pain, but the means being using drugs that alter your state of mind, which is why I thought was the main reason why drugs are gravely sinful.
Only 6 posts in on a topic not at all related to abortion. I think we have a new record for CAF’s only version of Godwin’s law. Many doctors will recommend abortions or euthanasia. Not related to the OP’s issue, but still I’m not sure I’d agree with that statement.

Anyway, if I was in pain I would be asking why they hadn’t given it to me already.
Using your line of thinking, use of anesthesia during surgery - which is not only mind-altering but renders one unconscious (just like going on a drunken binge!) - would also be sinful, which it is clearly not. Using your line of thinking, surgery itself - deliberately maiming the body! - would also be wrong. You need to think more maturely about real issues concerning ends, means, and intent.I guess I was thinking along the lines of the end not justifying the means, with the end being relieving pain, but the means being using drugs that alter your state of mind, which is why I thought was the main reason why drugs are gravely sinful.
I was thinking the exact some thing. Can you tell us why you think it **wouldn’t **be? What commandment would you break?

You cannot be addicted to morphine and other pain killers so long as you are in pain. It’s only when you take them when you’re not in pain that it becomes a problem.I was thinking the exact some thing.
OP, endure a compound ankle fracture and see how long you last without morphine. Study that bone sticking out of your leg and tell the doctor, “You know what, I’m going to take a pass on that morphine drip you’re ordering because I might get addicted.”
That is if you can speak at all. Most of us can just scream and moan.
Understood, but the OP asked about taking morphine after an accident. My compound fracture was the result of an accident, and you can bet the farm I was screaming for pain relief by the time I got to hospital. I was in no condition to weigh the morality of pain relief. You cannot be addicted to morphine and other pain killers so long as you are in pain. Morphine is not an illicit drug.haha, I meant illicit drugs
I know what the OP asked, but others have mentioned the problem of addiction.Understood, but the OP asked about taking morphine after an accident. People in the UK have a much better understanding of palliative care than Americans. We’re getting better at it, but deep in our collective psyches we still think that pain is something we should endure stoically, like the Duke would have wanted us to.
