Promethius,
Sorry this post/reply is terribly tardy. I have enough anguish regarding the divorce/remarriage issue, that at the time I first posted, I didn’t want to answer. The answer to your question about “sitting down with a priest” to discuss the matter is “no.” At the time of the break up, a priest told me I was going to hell for getting a divorce. At the time I was so angry that he never really asked me anything about the problems. I know I was wrong to not seek advice from another priest. In despair I turned away, relocated to another state, and for several years didn’t even attend a church. I didn’t know that it was not a sin to be divorced but that remarriage is the big grave sin. (I know its my fault for turning away for so long.) Just wanted a chance at a decent trusting relationship, so I remarried a several years later. Anyway, my present marriage is 25 years old now and doing well. After reading other posts and how irritated many “good catholics” are about people like me, I do not, out of respect, attend a catholic church. Because as you say, the church will not end a marriage. I know all about annulments and how controversial they are. Thank you for asking about my position with the church. I know you are very passionate.
I do hope & pray you are well and safe. Thanks for military service.
