Oh, I sure he meant it! What exactly did he mean by it? I don’t believe He really wanted us to mutilate ourselves. This is a great example of a topic in which we would defer to the Magesterium to help us! 😃

I’ve noticed that you add LOL to a large number of your posts…does this help make your “put down” of the person you’re responding to more satisfying in some way?

As for your response to the teaching about cutting off your hand or plucking out your eye, we’ll watch to see how quickly you pluck your own eye out the next time a pretty girl walks by…you might want to avoid the pool and the beach this summer…okey dokey?

Randy, let’s not lower ourselves to the level of the offender, shall we? Anyway, if Atemi is a woman, this would imply she might be a lesbian, and we better not go there, even though we are on the topic of mortal sin.

I noticed that Catholics do not laugh here. Or is it that only non-Catholics are forbidden to laugh?

I wonder if I would even find any Catholics laughing in their posts here…

I am sorry if I find humor in some of the things different folks will say. Maybe you don’t find humor in anything. Sorry.

The dear nuns at school, the school register was marked every Monday morning, you had to say if you went to confession, mass and holy communion. Now you were just too honest not to lie so it was very embarrassing to say ‘confession mass but no communion, I sinned in the 12-hours between’!

The wonders and mystery of childhood…oh and all the hang-ups!!!

I listened to what the deacon had to say and…ignored it! The education is inground too deep to change now. I miss communion most weeks but at least the fear of sin is one sin I do not have to worry about.

You should accept Christ’s mercy. Read up on the Sacred Heart of Jesus. He is truly hurt because we do not accept his mercy, but tend to look at Him as "out to get us.’ He tells us this is wrong. If you only have venial sins, then all you have to do is ask for forgiveness before you go to communion and “accept” His mercy. A mortal sin should be the only thing that would keep you away.
Don’t we always say, “Lord, I am not worthy to receive you, but only say the word and I shall be healed”? We are acknowledging that we are sinners and in need of His mercy.
You need to receive His body as often as you can.

Could anyone shed some light on this for me?
I have been confused about this for a LONG time!
I have a hard time accepting the idea that God would not want us to pray for a brother or sister who is endangering their soul by committing mortal sin! Doesn’t it say in the Bible that he wishes for ALL to repent and turn their lives around? On the other hand, it does** say not to pray for them! :confused:

Also, what is the difference between mortal sin and grave mortal sin?

I am sorry, but I don’ t know the answer to this either. I heard Fr. Pacua say on the radio that venial sins can be forgiven by an act of confession, like we say at every mass. But a mortal sin requires absolution in confession. I think a mortal sin is grave by definition.
 
I think it’s not unlike when God says that he “hates” someone, like Esau. We read it like people talking today. Sometimes sayings and words don’t always come across perfectly clear in our modern language.
