You likely know this already, but the OT for Christians (and Jews) is not like the Quran for muslims. Both Jews and Christians agree that the OT is the story of how God revealed Himself to a flawed humanity. Nobody pretends that ANY of the heros of the OT were perfect models of how humans should be.

Read that OT closer. IMO, the polygamy tales all tend to reinforce christian teaching about why polygamy is incompatible with human dignity. Polygamy is a function of the fact that God had only just begun to reveal himself to these early patriarchs.

Beats me. I haven’t met them all.

But IFAIK it is not permitted in orthodox or reformed Judaism today.

A Muslim told me that Mohamed married a ten year old girl and had relations with her. I questioned another Muslim if this was true and he said it was. Somehow this was justifiable.

This is somewhat off topic but needs to be addressed anyway. St. Paul was not saying that deacons were not to be polygamists. He was saying that if a man was ordained a deacon he should only be married once before ordination. After ordination he could not be remarried if his wife should die. The church never allowed for polygamy, and if a man who practiced polygamy wanted to be baptized (both at the beginning and even until this day) he would have to live only with his first wife. The others would have to leave his home, although he would still have to provide for them and any children who would have left with the “extra” wives.

So if a man has a dispute between himself and his wife, he doesn’t have to be concerned about being fair?

Im not muslim but i can tell you for a fact he did marry a 6 year old and then consummated the marriage when Aisha was 9.

How is it possible that this man can be considered holy, a prophet, sinless? How old was he when this crime against a child took place?

He was 52 when this act took place.
And apparently it was the cultural norm to do this back then…
Not that it makes it right by no means, its absolutely discusting to think a man of that age would do this to a little girl.

They had relations when she was nine. He was in his late 40’s or older

When you’re a Moslem, you’re already in the mind-set that anything Muhammed did must have been holy, because he was the prophet of their god.

So when he slept with a child, that must have been okay.

When he urged people to lie, and to murder, that too must have been okay.

You see their start point is that he was holy. We look at what he did and then ask “Could he have been holy?” so we’re looking at the events from different perspectives

It’s addressing men and how they deal with their wives.

It says that in dealing with them you can’t deal with your wives equally.
 
ok so men cannot deal fairly with many women. So why is polygamy ok and why did Muhammad had a zillion wife? am not sure i read any answer for this?

It’s irrelevant whether it was normal then or normal culturally

What’s wrong is wrong. Culture and time have nothing to do with this.

Moselms don’t say “We believe Muhammed is an example for men - but only Arabs” (culture) “We believe Muhammed was an example for men” (time)
