Yes, one person taking off shoes with or without socks does spread around a stench. I would imagine a whole group of people who just finished walking around in the scorching-hot would be worse, hahaha.

If I may add to this discussion… I visited several old mosques that were popular tourist sites when I was in Egypt, and yes, they often smelled like tons of stinky feet. But I also visited the relics of St. Mark and had to practically hold my breath because the carpet REEKED of feet. But I mean, I guess that’s a good thing, right? It means lots of people have paid their respects!

Well, I guess I should have called them the “supposed relics” of St. Mark. According to Coptic (and maybe Catholic?) tradition, St. Mark brought Christianity to Egypt through Alexandria. The Copts consider him their first Pope. What they believe to be his relics (his head, specifically) is kept at St. Mark’s Coptic Orthodox Cathedral in Alexandria (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Mark%27s_Coptic_Orthodox_Cathedral_(Alexandria)#Relics_of_Saint_Mark)
As far as I know, the Catholic Church doesn’t claim to have his head anywhere, so maybe we agree with the Copts?

Trying or not, you are succeeding in being incredibly rude. Are you seriously suggesting that the carpets (and everything else) in a mosque wouldn’t be as regularly cleaned as those in Buckingham Palace or anywhere else?
I think if the worshippers manage to clean themselves five times a day they will at least give the carpets a regular cleaning as well
Most old buildings will have whiffs of various kinds (mould and so on), and I imagine in summer anyone’s feet can get smelly, but to suggest the carpets themselves smell makes no more sense than to suggest the carpets in any other public place smell.

depends, some daily , others are weekly ,
and in some countries , people who attend the mosques wear flip-flops (shoes not common, except for cold months)…so there is less need to clean the carpet
but as a rule, if you eat garlic or some other smelly foods , or your clothes are filled with paint and dirt…or your have bad smell in mouth …it’s recommended to pray at home

**A gabriel, mosques ar emeant only for prayers. Prayers to the One God only. Not for any political activity. There should be remembernce of God as prescribed from very early times. There are not to be any images or statues or idols inside the mosque. And no musical instrumens too. The prayer is always a physical, mental and spiritual exercise. That is to relax and have time to one’s self away from the affairs of the day.
Of course, lectures on religious matters could be given inside the mosque. But nothing political instigation to mislead the people or mass them together against government orders or agitation or rebellion. That would be misuse of the mosque.
Mosque is a place of Peace. There should be no querrel or struggle or killing in the mosque. Mosques are built on free (public) place, not on a plot belonging to some one. Every one is allowed to enter the mosque for prayers. Nobody can be stopped from entering. The place is open for the worship of One God for the individual prayes and for the collective prayers.
Remember that Muslims have individual prayers as well as the collective prayers. The individual prayers cannot be performed collectively.

Islam’s biggest threat is the same as that of Christianity. And that is secularism and growing Atheism!. This may even be a bigger threat for Islam, since Islam hasn’t been getting a good image lately. Thanks to the terrorists. It may be easier for Islam and Christianity to thrive in third world countries. But as for Europe and the rest of the West. Good Luck!.
