Most annoying celebrities

If some of these celebrities have dabbled with college, or even graduated, it still does not entitle them to the bully pulpit.

So, Susan Sarandon graduated from Catholic University. Did she graduate with honors, or just squeak by? Really, it doesn’t matter to me. I can only hope that she is not claiming to be a practicing Catholic because that would be yet another reason that she is a disgrace.

James Woods has qualified to be a member of Mensa. He may actually have accepted membership. He was offered scholarships to the nation’s best polytechnic institutes, but chose acting instead. None of it entitles his word and opinion to be given more weight than mine, just because he plays pretend for a living.

Truly, most of these celebrities are the morons of the world. Woods may especially be considered a moron, seeing as though he could have used his brain for better purposes, other than putting a large portion of it on automatic pilot and chasing fame, fortune, and status as one of the “beautiful people.”

There is only a few thoughts I would add to this discussion, the first is that the reason these celebrities have the bully pulpit is that ultimately we give it to them.

The second is that while I don’t agree with what most of them say about a lot of issues, I would hold, that in a similar position, I would hopefully use my position to talk about issues I felt were important. The gospels stress that we are to let our light shine out to the world. If we have an opportunity to speak out on important issues, then as Christians, don’t we have an obligation to?

The third is, that including politicians in this list is, I believe a misuse of the term celebrity. What they say, and the coverage of the media is more important because ultimately, these are individuals who might be in a position to do something. You might find Obama, Clinton or McCain annoying, but they are important politicians who are not given the bully pulpit simply because they have been in a movie.

I agree with this completely. The fascination and importance that people in this country give to celebrities is just disturbing.

It wouldn’t surprise me if these celebrities use the issues of the day to get themselves more publicity, either by using the bully pulpit we afford them or by purposely making controversial statements they know will put them in the spotlight once again. I believe celebrities are constantly searching for relevance.

Which is as it should be.
Quite honestly, I don’t see much of a difference from when a celebrity is on TV touting their support for an issue or a politician to when they are on TV trying to sell me shampoo.

Another positive an uplifting thread I see!

How disapointing…😦

I don’t see this as a particularly mean spirited thread, although I suppose it could quickly become so. Most of us are voicing disgust mainly with our culture that places people on a pedestal not for saving lives or doing noble deeds but simply entertaining us.

This thread could very well provoke some of us to search our own faults. After all, when I pass a rack of magazines, I do look at Brittany’s mess of a life. Even if I don’t buy, aren’t I contributing to a unhealthy aspect of our culture? That is something that I need to look at in my own life.

But I agree we all need to remember that actors no matter how they might annoy us, are real human beings.

Oprah, used to be interesting about 15 years ago, but her fame and fortune have gone to her head. Seems like her studio audience almost worships her.

A lot of us are sick of these pampered poodles openly betraying not only their country, but Christian ideals in general.

Count me as one of the people who are sick of the pampered poodles.

Speaking up about issues is fine. But when someone like the vile Bill Maher gets to have his word more widely spread across the world, like manure being used to fertilize the atheistic, anti-American seeds he plants in the minds of his audience, the scales of fairness are being abused in a corrupt manner.

Janine Garfalo Don’t know how to spell her name, but she is annoting irmathecatholic:

Whoops, i forgot to mention everyone on CBS Irmathe catholic

Tom Cruise… especially, when he did the jumping on the sofa when he told Oprah that he was in love.

That’s all I could think of now.

I agree with every annoyance mentioned so far and I just want to add Queen Latifah to the list, if I had never even seen the woman that name would be enough.

I dont know if they qualify but most sports professionals are pretty annoying too. The other night two Montréal Canadien players were arrested in Florida for stealing a womans purse. The public jumped to their defense, with one radio presenter actually saying on air, “who hasnt stolen a womans purse sometime in their life” (uh, me for one). These overpaid prima donnas get away with murder, literally (OJ anyone) and the public turns a blind eye. Most are just overpaid spoiled kids, can`t see what all the fuss with sports is anyways.

I’ve been annoyed with Madonna since the 80s, when she said that the Crucifix was sexy because there was a naked man hanging on it.
Susan Sarandon, for speaking at an abortion rally when she herself was about 6 months pregnant.
Julia Roberts for speaking as though every word that falls from her lips is some fort of holy nugget of wisdom.
Barak Obama for trying to use Scripture to defend his stand on abortion rights - not to mention his defense of his church’s racist views.
Michael Moore for . . . well, need I say “moore”?
And, just about every other celeb listed so far.
I’m curious about the scripture verse(s) used by Barak Obama, anyone knows?

Barack Obama is a rabid pro-Abortionist. He is vehemently against the ban on Partial Birth Abortion.
**He uses the story of Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice Isaac as an example of what he means. Abraham heard God tell him to sacrifice Isaac and had the faith to obey. If we, by contrast, were to see anyone try to kill his son today, we would call the police. Government would be obligated to prevent Isaac’s sacrifice because God doesn’t reveal himself to everyone at the same time. We wouldn’t all be aware that it was God who had told Abraham to do it. Obama’s conclusion is that, “the best we can do is act in accordance with those things that are possible for all of us to know, understanding that a part of what we know to be true … will be true for us alone.” This is moral relativism. “My truth is not the same as your truth.” **
Truth is Truth - PERIOD.

It’s not only relativist, it’s also stupid. What “ignorance of the law” as an excuse means is, we don’t penalize you if you didn’t know. We should still stop you.

By his logic we shouldn’t stop the KKK, either, since they don’t “know” blacks are their equals.

But then, I’m capable of seeing the implications of ideas.

Celebrities get their (ahem!) kissed most everywhere they go. People they surround themselves with and people they meet laugh at all their jokes and tell them they agree with everything they say.

So it’s natural for their egos to go off the charts and start thinking they REALLY ARE great and intelligent, so obviously their religious, philosophical, and political opinions aren’t only golden, but must be shared with the world.

Justin Timberlake! The guy thinks he’s the coolest thing on the planet. He also claims to be both Buddhist and Christian. Is that even possible?

As an actor and musician, I respect celebrities for their talent (some have considerably more than others, lol) and the hard work it took for them to be successful in the business. I think, for example, that Barbra Streisand is a stellar actor/vocalist, but her politics - ugh!

Agree with Michael Moore and Bill Maher - those two are at the top of my #%@^ list, along with Susan Sarandon and others mentioned. I’ll add Matt Damon for his disrespectful comments about Sarah Palin, and Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel for having concerts in support of Obama.
