Most annoying misconception of the Catholic Church?

When my grandmother (the white one, not my catholic grandmother) found out that I became Catholic she asked me why I did that since “all they do is tell you what to do”. I asked her to explain what she meant and she said that she thought that’s what the point of having a Pope was: That Catholics have a Pope to tell them what to do so that they don’t have to think or make their own decisions. She’s not a Protestant or anything, just kind of bitter about a lot of life. Since she’s my grandmother, I couldn’t even really say anything in reply. I just said “Well, I don’t know about other people, but I did it for my own reasons…”

Anything having to do with the Real Presence or the Eucharist. I really dislike it when I hear that Catholics worship crackers and we are pig-headed because we claim that our Communion is different and are stuck up because we do not let other faithes partake of Our Communion.

I would have to vote for anything relating to the Eucharist. The other topics or options to vote on, I really do not have a big problem like I do with misconceptions about the Eucharist.

I personally don’t believe any of misconceptions, but there are some in the Catholic Church during Pope John Paul’s reign that wanted him to use Papal infallibility to declare Mary as Co-Redemptrix. This would have widen the gulf between Lutherans and Catholics and maybe the E.O.
As far as All priests are pedophiles, there are problems with Protestants pastors too, Just because one is accused, that doesn’t all. The rest are not worthy of bringing up.

There is a petition online to ask Pope BenedictXVI to declare Mary as Co-Redemptrix.
Scott Hahn is very supportive of this. I guess something like 7 million people have signed it.

If the church declares it I will believe it but, I hope it doesn’t happen.

Concerning Doctrine, so many Protestants believe and tell each other that Catholics work for their salvation.
They deny that Justification is a life long process of growing in holiness…of growing into the perfection of Christ Jesus.

Is there not a petition to declare her as Mediatrix of all Graces too? I think it may be a dogma, but it is not raised to a De Fide as of yet.

I read your comment before and wondered if that could be a stereotype of Texas Catholics LOL. I don’t think they want their guns taken away, and seeing I was raised there, I would be quite mad if someone took my guns away too.
