The on air personality of Raymond is so different from the off air personality. He is as down to earth as anyone, with a great sense of humor. I know the comments he made about Mother Angelica being snubbed were based on his love for her. She really loves him too. They have always had a special relationship.

I think Mother is an humble servant and would not or does not feel snubbed. Everything she has done with EWTN has been for Him!!!

Below is a prayer Mother Angelica wrote and prayed right before EWTN first went on the air.

O God, Lord of heaven and earth,
You alone have accomplished all we have done.
May this first Catholic satellite television Network
be a tribute to the beauty of Your Church.
May Your Son, the Eternal Word,
be glorified through this work of Your hands.
Bless all the programs that will issue forth
from its facilities.
Just as Your Word issued forth from You, Lord Father,
may that same Word touch each heart
that listens to this Network.
Let Your Spirit work with freedom
through every teacher who proclaims Your truth
and Your Church.
Bestow upon this Network
the power to inspire men
to seek holiness of heart,
zeal for the extension of Your Church,
courage to seek after justice and human rights
and patience to endure persecution. Amen

Mother Angelica’s certainly worked hard to get EWTN started. She is a dear lady with a wonderful love for Jesus and the Church.

In close…Happy Birthday, Mother Angelica!!! I pray God will continue to bless you and will continue to answer the EWTN prayer!!! We all love you!

I have a great deal of love and admiration for Mother. I would love to have had her recognized by Pope Benedict. For whatever reason, it didn’t happen. Could have been the bishops, the planning committee. time constraints or focus. Of all the reasons it could be I highly doubt it had anything to do with Raymond Arroyo’s personality or behavior. That would be petty, uncharitable and very un-Christian.
Regardless, in my eyes she is a saint and I believe very special in God’s eyes.

(I also happen to like Raymond Arroyo and his coverage and comments on the Papal Visit.)

USCCB agenda to silence EWTN?
Really? Why? EWTN is the only Catholic station around. Watching it has helped answer questions and was instrumental in leading me to want to convert to the Church.

I never watched Mother Angelica, I tend to watch the Mass and Fr. Corapi.

No worries. The USCCB is not anti-EWTN. In fact, the USCCB is not a single-minded, “liberal” Catholic entity, as many seem to describe it. It is the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. Which Bishops? All of them. This includes “orthodox” or “conservative” Bishops and more “liberal” Bishops. I use the quotes because, our Bishops, like the rest of us, are hopefully striving to be faithful Catholics - that’s what is important.

So, if an individual Bishop says something that you believe is contrary to Church teaching, don’t vilify him - pray for him and pray that we all gain a better understanding of Church teaching, so we can glorify God.

I did not see where the word “snubbed” was used by Raymond. The title of the linked article is “THE FORGOTTEN MOTHER” (by Raymond Arroyo).

It is my humble opinion that Mr. Arroyo feels this way because of his great love of Mother Angelica, not because “he was miffed that he could not represent her.” The latter is attributing an emotion to him that is uncharitable.
This was my first impression of the article as well.
Like a little boy who was afraid his mother’s feelings were hurt. I think it’s kind of sweet, and indicative of his great fondness of her, bless his heart.🙂

Robert,

So well stated that I can add nothing.

Be well,

John

I can’t find the article and can’t seem to navigate to it. The link you provided doesn’t mention Mother Angelica at all.

Ah, thanks.

Hmmm, I never saw the menu on the right…only the one on the left.

I wonder if that means something…:hmmm:
😃

Well, for one thing, you obviously have your colors mixed up…should be right and left. 😉

EDIT ADD: Oops…sorry about that…you are Canadian, so different rules may apply.

The giving of honors to secular and anti-catholic jornalists )in one case anyway). The giving of public scandal at the Pope’s mass’s by giving communion to supporters of abortion. The failure to mention ex corde in the address to educators. The empahais on the seamless garment - not abortion until the final mass.

IMO this visit will just rejuventate those who take it all with a wink and a nod. And you wonder why SSPX grows despite ther supposed orthodox papicies of JP2 and Benedict?

Course the orthodox Papacy of JP23 did nothing for Western vocations.

Its is all pomp and circumstance - not faith - IMO.

Did the Pope “snub” Mother Angelica? No.
Did the American Bishops? Of course - as usual. (“as usual”, of course, referring to the American Bishops unbelievable efforts and attempt to pull the plug on EWTN and Mother Angelica in the past and their long memories at how Mother outsmarted them. For that whole story see Raymond Aroyo’s biography of Mother. The details are stunning).
Back to the topic - the American Bishops decided to single out (or in the very least gave the only and final approval to singling out) Wolf Blitzer and Tim Russert to be presented personally in a small private audience with the Pope in the middle of his hectic schedule with a token honoring their overall “contribution” in the media - exactly to what, I can’t imagine. Of course, if anyone were to single out one person in the United States who accomplished 1,000,000 times more than the next 1,000,000 media people put together vis-a-vis the Mission of the Catholic Church in this world - in media, that is - for the Pope to single out - - - - Mother Angelica is that person! No one else should have even been considered. And the thought that Mother perhaps couldn’t travel to D.C. - as a reason to choose someone else - is ridiculous. The good nuns at Our Lady of the Angels Monastery would have personally pushed Mother’s wheelchair along the interstates 24 hours a day to get there if they had to - IF she had been invited and included. Obviously, she wasn’t.
But, of course, our Bishops - who attempted - spending millions - and failed to set up a competing Catholic Broadcast Network similar to EWTN (read Raymond’s book) clearly snubbed Mother because they can’t get over that (amongst other things).
(Of course there are a few good bishops, and we can only pray for them and the rest as well).
And some of the attacks on this thread on Raymond and Father Neuhaus are just as absurd. Personally, I was amazed at how well they held their tongues on many of these issues. EWTN - Mother herself - got raked over the coals by the bishops concerning her own comments on air during one of JPII’s visits (I think it was regarding a woman playing Christ in Denver, but my memory could be off on this point).

30miller, you got it…and said it so much better than me!

Thanks. Always nice to have someone affirm one's viewpoint.
And I try to accept this "snub" of Mother as Mother herself surely does - she won't lose any sleep over it. Just as the Greatest of all was not honored in this world but crucified instead - neither are the truly greatest of his followers. And the trinket the Bishops came up with to be presented to Blitzer and Russert won't be as tiny as a grain of sand is to the universe in comparison to the reward I am certain that awaits Mother Angelica.
And it was great to see so much of Pope Benedict.

If you read Rayomond’s book on Mother, she met Pope John Paul ll twice (whom she loved) and he recognized her, touched her, praised her (“weak body, strong woman”.) and loved her plans for EWTN. That alone would carry me through…In the pictures she is just beaming.
She doesn’t need anymore, it would have been nice, but that’s the way humans are. When she passes on though, I hope she does get some recognition. Talking to a lot of male Catholics, many felt threatened by her power and how she did so many things without the education and rank that they had. Anytime I feel a bit down, I’ll pick up that book and read a chapter or two and realize how much can be done with God by your side.
