Mother Angelica's Unpopular Moment (among many?)

I read her speech (I wish they would air it sometime, it may have been her 2nd speech after the first comments she was called out for) about a certain (don’t remember the year) Catholic Youth Day in Washington DC where she found out Jesus was being played by a woman in the production.

She made a criticism of I think Bishop Foley? And then kept silent. Controversy stormed she didnt answer definitively - but she finally did-it is in the book Mother Angelica by RArroyo
I will find the page and quote it-unless someone has the text and can post it quicker?

It was amazing-she KICKED it-and didnt care about where the chips fell.

All she did was express her opinion.

I’m seen Sunday School plays where the Christus was played by a girl–holding an Icon of the Lord.

I believe the woman who portrayed the Christus at this play at WYD–which I think was in Denver–wrote a letter to Ven. John Paul II apologizing. She received a letter saying, in effect, that the Pope knows from his own experience in theatre that there is no connection between the actor and the character portrayed.

An old Italian lady armed with wooden spoons remains that, even when wearing a habit. Of course, Mother Angelica could not have accomplished the things she did WITHOUT the spunk of an old Italian lady armed with wooden spoons.

But this doesn’t mean all her opinions and public statements are correct.
 
This bothered me, also. Of all the world youth on that world youth day that could have played Jesus, they picked a woman. It was certainly a feminist agenda.

Thank God for Mother Angelica.

I look forward to see her words quoted as I have not read the book, yet. 🍿

I’m glad Mother is such a stubborn type that holds her ground. More people like her are needed in the Church.
 
Mother took a lot of Flack from a lot of liberals, but it didn`t shake her Faith or turn her back, in fact it determined her to go forward even more.She even got flack from priests etc

Page 239 is titled: “The Gender Bender in Denver”.
The real fireworks start near the top of Page 242.
Good on her!
 
Mother Angelica tells it like it is, and all I can say is Amen to that. Liberals stink big time in my book.:mad:

His whole duty is to portray the truth and … you destroy it before it appears in the papers. You speak against it. You call him an old man … you plant this mime, this woman as Jesus. You cant stand Catholicity at its height, so you spoil it, as youve spoiled so many things in these thirty years. Try it with Martin Luther King. Put a white woman in his place and see what happens. Try it with Moses and Mohammed. No, we`re the only ones who can be bashed to the ground and we say nothing.”

She hissed to quell the hurt, her eyes turning moist. Defending the person of Christ and His Church, she roused herself to full fury. Biting at each syllable, clutching the Crucifix at her chest as if it were the source of her oratory, she continued, “You see this collar. We had this little modern collar so that we could appeal to this modern world, this pagan society … Were going to change it. Were going to look very Roman because I`m making a statement.”

As far as the Sunday School play (about the raising of Lazarus, btw), it just happened that this girl was the only one able to memorize the lines required.**
 
There is an apparent and blatant feminist agenda in Our Church today…it is present in the seminaries where women are put on admissions boards and can decide whether a seminarian can stay or go…Women can not and should not be priest…why on God’s green Earth are they deciding who can and will be priest…that is like me deciding who becomes a Doctor…and this agenda is found everywhere from the most basic and local level to the USCCB and even in Rome…And to top it off, how are you familiar with out problems considering you are Orthodox? Why do you always feel the need to tell Catholics how we need to do things?

A small drama group or Sunday School play is one thing, but with something the size of WYD, there`s no excuse.

There may not be any diggable uppable evidence for the Denver case, but there`s plenty of general evidence elsewhere.

Donna Steichen`s book: “Ungodly Rage: The Hidden Face of Catholic Feminism” was published more than 20 years ago, but it gives a good background of the New Age, radical feminist antics. Lesbianism, witchcraft etc. Rather than wanting to be “priestesses”, most of them actually want to destroy the priesthood.

Michael Rose`s Book: “Goodbye! Good Men”, or the Tim Staples audio version, details some of the horrors endured in some seminaries. This includes the “gay” agenda, as well as general dissent.

Theres evidence, all right, and the thing is demonically driven. Its too well orchestrated to be anything else.
 
It is quite evil as it is an insult to women, men, and God.

The way to illustrate how wrong and twisted this is, is just propose this example.

Lets say I want to publicly portray the Blessed Mother at a national Catholic Conference and I put a guy with a wig on. Isn’t that wrong?

The reason it doesn’t seem as wrong to do this with Jesus is we have distorted the faith for so many years we are almost accustomed to insulting Jesus and it doesn’t bother us as much, even though He is God.

The Pope was gracious about it, since he was such a kind, kind man, what could he do? He did the pastoral thing and was kind to the girl, as he understood she wasn’t trying to misrepresent the faith, as the organizers did.

Mother Angelica, was a voice of sanity when many were too wimpy or nuts to speak up.

Mother Angelica is wonderful. What a powerhouse. She has built (with Christ’s assistance) a Shrine, a Network, and religious orders. She and her network are strong voices for orthodox Catholicism and in that context she has made enemies. I have read criticisms of her and it appears she REALLY gets under liberal Catholics skin.

Go Mother! God appears to be blessing what she is doing.

Mother Angelica is one amazing daughter of the Faith.

She’s had to scratch and claw her way along trusting in God when others threatened to abandon her … overcoming serious physical ailments. We can have an idea from an article written by Raymond Arroyo about 14 years ago:

And her faith has instances of mysticism - for example, St. Michael the Archangel showing her where to plant her short-wave antenna

In theatre they take a lot of liberties - that just seems to be how it is. But Mother won’t let anyone mess with her values. I love that kind of grit.

As a man, I can see her point . If I were to watch a production of the Life of Christ and the part of Our Blessed Mother was played by a man, I think that, even if I closed my eyes, the voice alone might ruin it for me.
