I need help. I can’t post on this forum though! Please PM me if you want to help. God Bless.:knight2:

Thank God for the blessing of a difficult mother-in-law! It gives you the oppotunity to exercise the graces God has given for you. It gives you the opportunity to forgive as Jesus commanded, it gives you the opportunity to grow in patience, understanding and love. Many graces can flow from this if you bend your will to God’s will. How you respond to those you find difficult can help you attain heaven! Thank and praise the Lord for putting her in your life, for giving you this cross to bear so that you can pick it up and carry it along side Him as you journey toward eternal glory!

Dealing with stresses from family or in-laws on a long-term basis can cause marital problems, health problems, and harm to the children, so the specific nature of the problem may need to be addressed by practical means as well as by prayer and offering.

Sometimes boundaries need to be protected, for the well-being of the family, and regarding the spouses’ relationship with each other in relation to in-laws, and other relatives, and even with regard to faith.

Though scripture tells us that a man must leave his mother and father and be one with his wife, sometimes, parents or in-laws can act in a way that works against God’s model for the married couple. For the Sacrament of marriage instituted by God to be undermined by in-laws, or mother-in-law, causing difficulty between husband and wife, or interfering in the sacred right of parents to raise their children according to their just principles by other family including mothers-in-law…no it simply shouldn’t be tolerated, but addressed with respect, kindness, but firmness.

I don’t know what this person’s particular issue is, but she is asking help but it is not always the best thing for ones spouse and children to remain simply compliant where the family or the marriage relationship is suffering due to inappropriate interference or undermining of anyone else.

Tolerating over-intrusiveness, rudeness, interference with the up-bringing of children, controlling their married children’s lives…to condone such behavior is not for the true good of the in-laws or parents, it may only confirm them in a kind of selfishness, or self-importance that is not good for their souls either. We all need to continue to grow in respect, kindness, balance, being there when required but without taking over, and so on. No matter how old we are, we parents and in-laws also need to grow, and to know where to help, where to refrain from intruding…and hopefully, where we lack the ability to see for ourselves, our children or their spouses will establish kindly and respectfully what boundaries are necessary and right.

Wonderful post! I can totally relate to everything you posted. I realized about 10 years ago that the difficulties that would arise in my relationship with my mother in law were attributed mostly because I choose to lend a spark to the difficulty at hand. I had to change the way I thought and the way I loved. I started to realize that I am not really a follower of Christ if I can’t love the way that He does. Don’t get me wrong, It wasn’t easy to change. It has been difficult as she is difficult. But the funny thing is that I’m sure she would say the same of me! Whenever I sense feelings of disharmony, I simply pray to our Heavenly Mother and offer up a Hail Mary for her and me. I also try and remember that she is the mother of my husband - and without her I would not have my husband and without him, I would not have our beautiful children.

Peace.

Feel free to send me a message because I have the same problem.
