Maybe there is / could be a public website debunking the bad stories, or giving public witnessing to the good stories? There are probably done our there…
 
I’ve heard that the IRS is finally posthumously bringing the Apostle Peter to justice for intent to commit tax evasion.

I’ve heard the accusation brought against JP II that he belonged to the Hitler Youth movement.
The refutation being that membership was compulsory for young men at the time.

I agree that India has very strict laws regarding opioid pain killers (something they have slowly been trying to correct), but there are non-opioid pain medication options. They did have doctors visit these houses and certainly had the means to afford such medications.

Non-opioid pain options. You mean NSAIDS, and a couple others, but primarily NSAIDS (non steroidal anti inflammatories). Toradol, Voltaren, Ibuprofen - they’re all variations on a theme.

You know what non-opioid pain meds are to a person who’s dying in agony? A complete joke.

In the end stages there’s really nothing else to give people for relief other than opioids - because the pharmacology of those drugs blocks the brain from feeling the pain. NSAIDS block the inflammatory cascade…which doesn’t exist in a lot of disease processes (like cancer, for one - especially bone cancer).

If you have an inoperable brain tumor increasing your intracranial pressure, no NSAID is going to relieve that.
If you have tumors wrapped around your internal organs, no NSAID will relieve that.
If you have bone cancer (I’ve seen osteosarcoma patients on ketamine - ketamine is also used as a horse tranquilizer and an anesthesia drug - and they are still in agony after we’ve given all we can give), an NSAID is useless.

Here’s your other classes of Rx pain meds:

Corticosteroids (not necessarily appropriate; expensive; must be closely managed in a hospital/by an MD - you don’t just give them)
Opioids
Antidepressants (totally not appropriate here, and expensive; designed for long-term pain management as they affect the serotonin cycle and the perception of pain)
Lidocaine patches (these are about $100 a box - expensive - and they’re topical - they’re not systemic, so they really don’t do a dying person much good)

So what else were they going to use? And remember, she was mostly working with volunteers in a non-hospital setting. Toradol and ketamine are Rx only, along with other higher-powered NSAID medications.

What options did they have, really?

I know our Rx prices in the US are high, but Medicare is a good baseline. Toradol per the Federal formulary - and remember, the Federal programs like Medicare and TRICARE are basically socialized medicine with one payor - is $71 A VIAL. Morphine is about $130.

Who was going to foot that bill, and since it’s all Rx, who was going to give it?

Motrin? Really? Tylenol? Those are the remaining options. All OTC in India.

Reusing needles. Part of me cringes. But to be honest disposable needles ARE a luxury - and a very expensive one. My mother is old enough to remember when needles were reused and autoclaved, and it was possible to get a dull one - they called it a “burr on the end”.

I was in nursing school back in the 60s and that’s what was done. Of course the syringes were glass not plastic.

Having been a volunteer I can vouch for the proper methods of sterilisation using the glass syringes ,precise and great care taken .
 
Hi UN 🙂 Years ago I volunteered in Africa with the MC’s as have many people from around the world.It was
one of the best experiences of my life.
You may not be going to post again,and you may not be going to even read the replies but I do wish you could see for yourself the amazing help they give ,how many of the things you listed are just not correct.

Oh of course. The syringes don’t bother me at all. I’m talking about the needles in the age of AIDS. But they do the best they can. Sometimes things we take for grants are luxuries.

Yes, that was essentially mandatory as far as I know. If I remember correctly, his father was strongly opposed to Hitler. But people needed to keep their mouth shut back then or else things could would get very very bad for them.
 
well, if she was evil, then the rest of us don’t stand a chance.
did she make mistakes, sure. Are there things she could have done better, well we all have those things. but I believe she did the best she could with what she had.

she was a nun, not medically trained. and also, for those who criticize her for baptisms, well, part of our call to being Christians is to evangelize. baptizing someone against their will makes the sacrament invalid anyways, I’m sure the sisters know that. we also can’t project our nortj-american/European view on this to the streets in the slums, it’s simply a different reality.

so le’ts just focus on what her overall message was, which ot bring Christ’s love to those in need. and it’s also really bad manners to speak ill of the dead anyways.

on the other end of the spectrum, many people who consider themselves traditional catholics criticize her as well for not being firm enough against those of other faiths. you just can’t please everybody
 
No but she was a human being who sometimes make some mistakes just like the rest of us.

I got bored “hearing” same stories from my Parish priest every year but it’s for new Catholics to learn about her.

One of her relics visited my Parish but I decided not to approach it because I’m not ready to accept her.

Maybe one day but for now to me… she is an inspiration to millions of people around the world.

I agree. That’s like hating a Russian/former Soviet because as a kid he belonged to the Young Communist Party.

It’s not like those people actually had a choice. I’m sure it was pretty close to belong or (your family might) die, whether literally or economically.
 
Whenever there is a Saint or holy person around, there’s always people trying to raise calumnies against them, go figure

A German immigrant friend of my mother’s some decades ago had also been in the Hitler Youth as a young teen in Germany and they said the same thing - you pretty much had to be in it or else.
The person wasn’t proud of having been in it and didn’t talk about it and didn’t really want it known either.

Benedict never joined the Hitler Youth. Here’s what happened:

At first, joining up was supposed to be something “elite,” only for passionate blonde young Nazis. As time went on, however, the Nazi Party adults (usually teachers) running Hitler Youth groups were pressured to get ever-higher recruitment and membership numbers, with rewards for success and punishments for failure. Eventually, it looked bad if they did not have 100% membership. This happened at Benedict’s school.

Benedict and other classmates who did not join up were pressured, threatened, begged to join… And eventually, that teacher stopped asking. He just put down their names as members, so that the bad stats would go away. They never went to meetings or did anything as members, and he stopped ruining his record with awkwardly truthful reports.

If you have time to read lies, you have time to look up the truth.

Actually many came from within the order and rom those who worked with her ,doctors who saw the out of date vaccines she used, Canadian drs who sent thousands to a child car unit,went back to see and found the money never seen; a baby died of malnuttirion while they were there. google has all the references. And I believe them. I think she was misguided re “poverty” and inflicted it on others. And re giving for its own sake " Mother Teresa’s Millions" are in the Vatican Bank . I faced all this years ago.
