He was one of three who restored the priesthood to the earth through JS.
He didn’t NEED to restore the priesthood, because the priesthood never left. The LSD idea that any kind of ā€œapostacyā€ took place is fallacious and is just another facet of the mormon fantasy religion.
ā€œStay away from LDS and all other mind-altering drugs.ā€šŸ‘

Sorry, the authority of St. Peter has been passed through the laying on of hands through 2,000 years of Popes. We have the complete record of this Apostolic Succession:

newadvent.org/cathen/12272b.htm

The authority of Peter was not lost for over a millenia and then restored to Joseph Smith in a vision. This is fantasy from the fantastical imagination of a man who wanted attention, fame and fortune and so, invented grandiose claims about himself.

So the commandment to not partake of the tree of knowledge of good and evil and to go forth and multiply were contradicting commandments. They had to choose.
I’m still waiting to hear a response from teancum79, or any other other LDS, as to how Mormons can possibly believe that God gave Adam and Eve two conflicting commandments and thereby forced them to choose to obey one and disobey the other. What kind of god is that? Do you really think that God plays those kinds of games with us?
I’d like to hear more about that myself

Good luck with that! If you’re looking for something substantive the likelihood is rather dim. Misdirection seems to be the order of the day.

I don’t know why we bother asking sometimes but I know it’s with the best of intentions. šŸ™‚

Where do you guys get all this hostility?

P.S it was not a vision it was a visitation and it was passed down by the laying on of hands just without the involvement of power hungry people pretending to be Christ representative.

1.Montanism- , apocalyptic movement of the 2d cent. It arose in Phrygia (c.172) under the leadership of a certain Montanus and two female prophets, Prisca and Maximillia, whose entranced utterances were deemed oracles of the Holy Spirit. They had an immediate expectation of Judgment Day, and they encouraged ecstatic prophesying and strict asceticism. They believed that a Christian fallen from grace could never be redeemed.

Prisca claimed that Christ had appeared to her in female form. When she was excommunicated, she exclaimed ā€œI am driven away like the wolf from the sheep. I am no wolf: I am word and spirit and power.ā€

The had the belief that the prophecies of the Montanists superseded the doctrines proclaimed by the Apostles

The attempt to teach falsehood and fantasy as the truth of salvation engenders hostility. If someone tried to tell me that commununism was the answer to the problems of the world and that it would bring universal happiness, I would be HOSTILE. Communism was a FRAUD. mormonism attempts to pass off a fantastic lie as the truth. And does it with a straight face. mormonism is the theological equivalent of Communism.

I have no patience for fake prophets like Joseph Smith. If you would like to label that ā€œhostilityā€, so be it.

So, who was the last legitimate successor to Peter before the ā€œapostasyā€? Was he there at the ā€œvisitationā€, too?

Here’s the List of Popes again:

It is just a small group of catholics that show hostility on this board. Most are content just to be catholic and let others be who they are and most show some respect to other faiths.

You just do not get it, do you? mormons come on Catholic boards and make wild statements like the one made by zerinus ā€œIf you don’t believe in the mormon ā€œgodā€, then you don’t believe in God at all.ā€ No one is going to hold still for that. When it comes to refuting false doctrine and deception, it is not a case of ā€œlive and let live.ā€ Why me IS a mormon posing as a Catholic.

JS wasn’t power hungry? you need to read your church history. what about BY? even more so than JS. the ā€œvisitationā€ is only attested to be JS. we have no rationale for the church personally established by jesus to fail and leave the earth without any sacramental grace for 1800 years. so i think the identity of power hungry people pretending to be christs representative is pretty obviously JS and his successors.
maybe you should go to the RfM board and try preaching to the ā€œapostatesā€. who knows they might buy it.

Were early popes power hungry? I think so. Human beings are human beings. I don’t think that JS was power hungry but he was dealing with a difficult situation. And he certainly wasn’t perfect and neither was BY. But as a human beings I am sure that his imperfections came out. It is only natural. JS was murdered for what he believed to be right just as the early apostles were murdered after the death of Chirst.

The non-catholic section of the forum is not a catholic board. It is for non-catholic religions. Abolish the section and the mormons will disappear unless of course, someone writes about the lds church on a different section. šŸ™‚

Everyone is still bound to behave charitably, no matter which forum you choose. Everyone agreed to that when they became a member of CAF.

Maybe so.

I feel sorry for anyone who believes they are both Catholic and Mormon. Straddling the two religions would be impossible for most people.

You are right. He is to be pitied. His own sad situation is not funny. It is the logical gyrations which are funny. :o

JS founded his own city where he was mayor. a true theocrat. this after he had tried to start his own bank with it’s own currency. he was ā€œgeneralā€ of his own militia and ran for president. he told men that God commanded him to take their wives and daughters for his own and told the women the same. he told his wife if she didn’t accept his womanizing she would be destroyed. BY started his own country in defiance of existing laws and government and ruled as tyrant. that’s about as power hungry as you can get and all the while claiming god commanded it by divine revelation. funny thing now is that many of those ā€œrevelationsā€ are downplayed as ā€œspeculationā€ now by mormons as the doctrines have changed and the extremist doctrines of the past are an embarrassment now. JS was killed by those whom he had wronged. vigilantes taking down a criminal. he was no apostle.
