Oops, sorry.
I meant to say that they will be supporting “Bella” thoughout the
rest of '07 in the US and starting in '08 will begin promoting it
elsewhere. Remember, if they get Oscar nominations, that will
propel it in England, Australia,etc.
I am getting ready for the “big day” at the convention and I’m
correcting my previous post in the wee hours of the morning so
I may have goofed here too.
(I promoted “Bella” to several out-of-town guests at the convention
since many come from small Texas towns where it won’t be
showing initially. Many were still raring to go for the latter showings. Oh, one lady mentioned that George P. Bush had had
the free showing in Dallas or Ft. Worth but that she hadn’t been
able to go.)

I think it was on The World Over that Eduardo or Leo said that
they were all about promoting this film in Mexico? and Europe
until March 2008. Then they will look into another film after that.
So maybe Ireland is sometime early next year?
Thanks for answering my question. 🙂 Hope it does come here early next year. Really looking forward to seeing it.

Have you seen this article about Bella?:
decentfilms.com/sections/articles/bella.html

It talks about how the lead actor Eduardo Verástegui went to an abortion clinic to study for the role, ended up talking to a Mexican couple to change their minds about abortion, and when their baby was born they asked if they could name him after Eduardo. It’s a lovely story, my description doesn’t do it justice.

We were able to go see “Bella” tonight and I have to say it’s an extremely touching movie on so many levels. I really loved it and you don’t see something so touching in movies nowadays. I hope it’s more widely released.

I also saw it last night. For their first movie, I think it was very good. Admittedly not the best as far as ‘filming’ expertise, but the story-line was deeper than some have said. There are many parts that I saw things that are still making me think.

And for those who don’t think that it is clear about what Nina chose to do, I have to tell you that as an adoptive mother of two who has had the blessed opportunity to meet the birthparents of my oldest, I have no doubts what so ever.

I think that it is a movie that one needs to see again, and possibly several times, in order to ‘see’ some ot those significant moments, and catch them.

I hope that a less expensive DVD comes out, so that I can get it, and do just that.

Chuck Colson has a very good article I just read, also.

God bless!

Saw “Bella” on the big screen today. Five of us went, but when
we got there we were told that there were only 10 seats left. We
decided to see it even if we sat apart. The problem was that the
seats were all in the very front where we could almost touch the
screen. It was a tiny theatre and I know many people left because
they could not sit so close. One of our group got dizzy and, after
a trip to the bathroom, watched the rest of the movie standing up.
But we all got up with so much running through our minds. The
characters, a nobility in Jose…so much more.
Three of us are going early to the theatre tomorrow to get better
seats, but I am also going to complain to the manager and check
into the other theatre to see if its a larger theatre. (They’re those
multi-screens places, but I had no idea any were that small!!)
I asked the manager why it wasn’t in a bigger one and he just
said something like “Those other ones make more money.”
I told him that “per theatre” it was doing better than those others…
Oh, well, maybe he’ll change it if he gets a lot of complaints or
has people going across town to the other one.

Forgot to mention that there is a loooooong lists of credits to
many people, including Scott and Kimberly Hahn, Tim Staples
and others. I had just read that Eduardo’s conversion had him
reading their conversion book… Great how the Lord is working,
isn’t it?

I just saw “Bella” here in Tucson this past weekend (which was opening weekend) and what an awesome movie.

I rarely pay for full-price movies—I usually see movies when they hit the $3.00 second-run theater. But I do make exceptions once in a blue moon, and this was one of them.

I encourage everyone to see it!

–Barbara

P.S. I didn’t get to see the credits because as soon as they started, something happened where we got a black screen/no sound and then after a few moments, they started showing the regular theater advertisements…but I’m glad to hear about people like Dr. Scott Hahn and such being part of it!

Hi everyone,

I’m a big fan of Michael W. Smith, and this is what he posted on his website:

Michael W. recommends: BELLA
11/13/07

Smitty shares a blog about a film that he wants you all to experience.

Dear Friends,

I don’t often recommend a movie, but this is an exception. Last Thursday, a friend who is promoting the movie “Bella” brought it over for my family to watch. I was deeply moved and intrigued. By Sunday afternoon, I was having lunch with the lead actor, Eduardo Verastegui, who blew me away with his passion for Jesus and his desire to be 100% God’s man *even as he lives and works in Hollywood.

This film is a beautiful, life-affirming story of redeeming love, and I highly recommend you see it! Take your family (older kids and up), spread the word among your friends and churches lets support something so refreshing and real at your local theater. If it’s not showing yet, request it! And pray that God’s favor will continue to give it the attention that it deserves.

God Bless,
Michael W.

I think it is AWESOME that a Christian artist is promoting a Catholic film!

Go see it!!!

I did watch it in Dallas with a friend. We were originally planning to see an action movie, but I guess the Holy Spirit led us to watch it.My German friend, does not like drama, but this one was an exception.Im planning to watch it again.once it becomes available in our area, since I was just visiting Dallas.

Our ordinary, Archbishop Burke, recommended the film so I went and saw it a couple weeks ago here in Saint Louis with some seminarian friends.

Very moving – I’m not ashamed to say that I was choked up during the final scene.

It’s probably been mentioned before, but I’ll reiterate that there’s a good dose of humor in the film, too, which is necessary given the heavier scenes.

A previous post mentioned that one will think about many scenes later, realizing the Biblical references and further contemplating the depth of the film. I agree wholeheartedly with this observation as it’s happening to me weeks later even as I write this post. Hey, lectio divina is not limited to printed texts!

Just received an e-mail from Eduardo Verastegui who said that
this coming weekend is crucial for “high box office scores” or
the movie will be taken out of the theatres.
So God willing I will be going again and taking whoever I can.

Now that “Bella” is in theatres throughout the country, I have
received an e-mail from Eduardo Verastegui saying that this
weekend (November 16-18) it is crucial to have “high box office
scores” or the movie will be withdrawn.
If you’ve seen it, go again and take someone with you. Then
next weekend (Thanksgiving) it will probably make it to some-
one’s top list since it will be considered a top movie in secular
circles.

As you might know, Bella is now in theatres and this coming
weekend it needs to really come in with very high numbers in
order to continue to be shown.
Please go see it if you haven’t and tell everyone you know.
You won’t regret it.

I saw the movie. It’s very well done. Good acting and the message is unmistakeably pro-life. It can hold its own vs. any movie out there as long as people know about it— spread the word.

Very surprisingly, Bella started a local run yesterday. I am planning on seeing Bella today, and if that does not work out, definitely tomorrow.

I saw it today. Absolutely beautiful movie. I got all misty-eyed, my wife was crying…it was incredibly moving.

It was a beautiful, moving film. I absolutely loved it. The presence of Christ was subtle, but essential (as in life!) 🙂
