Movie: Its a Wonderful Life. Fantasy Romance?

Love the film it is great and very heart warming. I try to watch it every Christmas. It is totally fiction and unrealistic. However so are the Lord of the rings books but no one puts them down for being fictional do they?

I thought the most unrealistic part was that there was the slightest chance Mary would have been a spinster librarian–let alone become near-sighted and had to wear glasses!–if she hadn’t had George to fall in love with. It was not as if Mary was some wallflower who didn’t know how to talk to males or couldn’t attract one, and George drew her out of her shell. If she’d never met him, she’d have found someone to marry. She was made to be a wife and mother, and she’d have become that without him. If she’d never met him, she’d not have known what she was missing.

The bannister post is just a symbol for George’s ADD. He means well, but never gets around to acting. In that way, he’s sort of a Capra version of Hamlet, without the adultery and murder.

I thought the faulty bannister post was a symbol of the things and people whose value George took for granted because they had their faults. He had this idea of doing “big things”, and underestimated how big one’s life is when one follows the “little way” of doing small things with great love, because that is what love asks of us.
