Bruno had a surprisingly good Friday opening, but an even more surprsing slide in Saturday attendance.
Bruno had one of the steepest Friday-to-Saturday drops on record, slipping 39 percent from $14.4 million on Friday to $8.8 million on Saturday. For the most part, movies with such Saturday slides do not hold up well in the long run, rendering Bruno’s chances at reaching $100 million remote.

I think work about this film has gotten out.

When I first heard about Sacha Baron Cohen it was having seen a few of his Da Ali G show.

Incredibly stupid. I don’t even think he’s talented. It’s not difficult to garner humour when you’re catering to the basest and lowest form. So I never saw Borat nor will I see Bruno.

Just my :twocents: LOL!

Me thinks Sasha didn’t study his market audience in America very well, hahaha. The sexual content he put up may have worked for a European audience, but definitely not mainstream America, especially with the target audience of young males. There’s a big difference between this and typical guy flicks such as “Jackass” and “American Pie”.

Word got out about his flopping weiner, haha.

I just came back from this film, and it was hilarious. Just leave the kids at home, and you’ll be safe. Baron Cohen is a master at setting up comedic situations and exposing the ignorance of certain people. Oh man, how I laughed…
You’ll be safe from what?

Peace,
Ed

As Borat, Mr. Cohen portrays the ultimate anti-civilized person. It is a shame he has decided to portray barbaric dysfunctionality and personal offense as something called comedy.

By the way, “ignorant” is the new word for anyone who disagrees with you. That is sad also. There is nothing progressive about a man who wastes his time breaking every rule he can think of. This sort of performing should simply be labeled Dysfunctionality.

Peace,
Ed

I’m sure your son is a good kid who can handle this film. My friends and I, though we’re a bit older than your son, loved it, and most of us are in good colleges and headed for great careers. We’re good people, who knew how to handle the humor. I think your son could do the same. Ultimately, it’s up to you, but you don’t want to build resentment.
Regardless if a person can handle an offensive movie but more to the point is, why waste money on a stupid movie??

You’d think that nowaday, a movie can’t be humorous unless there is vulgar sex in it. Is there no good quality humors anymore.

Such stupid humors can only come from stupid people who can’t write a smart script.

There are too many stupid movies out there that depends too much on vulgar tasteless sex stuff to make it funny…and it’s not even funny!

’Terrorist leader’ threatens to sue ‘Bruno’ movie
JAFFA, Israel – A “terrorist leader” interviewed in the just-released hit movie “Bruno” is fuming mad, telling WND the film mislabels him and that the movie’s star, Sasha Baron Cohen, conducted the interview under false pretenses.
Ayman Abu Aita, who is labeled in the movie as a “terrorist group leader,” said he was shocked when he learned five days ago the film depicts a homosexual character and contains scenes including full frontal male nudity and graphic homosexual fetish sex.
Exclusive for my Twitter readers: Prominent terrorists are studying possibility of issuing condemnation of ‘Bruno’ movie.
It’s time for Sasha to hideout in the caves as that’s one angry ex-terrorist.

My husband and I loved Borat and went to see Bruno yesterday - we enjoyed it, but it was nowhere as good as Borat. I think because it had such a narrow focus and the character of Bruno is no where near as “likable” as the character of Borat. I felt no sympathy at all for Bruno.

I would never ever in a MILLION years let a 16 year old see it. As Ebert says at the end of his review, the R rating is “very very very hard”. I’ve never been as shocked by an R rated movie. You see more of Bruno’s naked penis than you would see in a hardcore pornography, and that part is fairly low on the list of shocking moments. Whatevergirl, I would stick to your guns and not allow your son to see this. If he’s going to sneak out and see it with friends that is on him - this is not a morally uplifting movie with redeeming features that happens to be rated R. It’s also not as eye-opening and thought-provoking as Borat. I thought many parts were hilarious, but there is nothing edifying about it whatsoever.

For the record I’ve never seen American Pie or any of those teen sex comedies. I don’t know how Cohen’s movies compare. I generally watch artsy movies and solid dramas, but for some reason Cohen’s humor, like South Park’s appeals to me (I cannot STAND Family Guy though, go figure).

It’s about as crass, vulgar, and bereft of dignity as you can possibly get, but I loved the part with the stage parents and the “hummus/hamas”…“Your King Osama looks like a dirty wizard or homeless Santa Claus” - between that and the hunting trip scenes, I have come to believe that Cohen is actually insane, or at least has no normal, healthy sense of fear.

The Ron Paul part was the most disturbing part to me, even though it wasn’t the most graphic.

I am not a prude in any way. there are movies that the USCCB have labeled “moraly offensive” that i did find funny (The Hangover to name one), but I do agree, Bruno is very gross and not funny at all. I was very tempted to walk out of the theater a few times, but was too horrified to leave my seat.
I saw Borat, which was bad enough. I figured Bruno would be pretty much like that. Like someone said before, Borat was tame compared to this. This was just gross, in your face immorality.

I found borat to be one of the most funniest movies i have seen in a long long time. I found myself laughing so hard i was in tears for most of the movie. But i’ll wait for some of my friends to go see bruno first. if they it is overly gay i wont watch it.

I ducked into the theatre where Bruno was playing with a friend while waiting for Harry Potter to start. We saw 10 MINUTES of it and left! I knew from Borat that Cohen was offensive, racist, sexist , anti-semetic and homophobic but,…The little we saw was not funny only perverse. I kept asking myself at each “yuck” why he thought this was funny. This brings a new meaning to the word “porn!” My vote before this for the most unfunny and offensive movie went to Jungle Thunder by Ben Stiller whose movies I usually like. That movie made me want to root for the Viet Cong it was so bad. I hate to tell Cohen this but, even my gay friends would think it too “gay” for them. If by gay you mean kinky male sexuality. I agree with the USCCB on this one:mad: Two thumbs down here.

Hey, isn’t ducking into a different movie technically stealing? :p:p

No, Cohen is not gay. Last I knew, he was engaged to some beautiful woman. As for his anti-semitism, you don’t get a lot of anti-semetic Jews. …Which brings me to my only question so far about this movie: if we see his penis, and it really is his penis, is it circumsized? One would expect it to be so, since he is Jewish, but, an Austrian (that’s what Bruno is, right?) wouldn’t be cut for a cosmetic reason. An Austrian, and most all Europeans, would have his foreskin.

When Borat came on HBO (or Showtime, can’t remember which one), I thought I’d give it a look-see because of all the talk about it. Maybe I watched 10 minutes. It was excruciating to watch, simply horrible. That type of humor is just not funny. I don’t plan to see Bruno–just the preview commercials for it turned me off.

I did see SB Cohen in Sweeney Todd and he seems like a competent actor. Why he has chosen this particular, one-dimensional, tasteless style of movie-making is beyond me.

For those of you who think this movie is fine and even funny, as it blasphemes everything that is holy and right and good and pure, my question to you is, would you bring our Lord or our Blessed Mother to see it? If not, you shouldn’t be there, either. If you would, whew. . .

Mary

It seems that it’s going to die it’s own death, it completely dropped off the scale in it’s second week. Word of mouth from the folks who saw it in Week 1 is doing a more effective job than moral outrage.

Your comment about moral outrage lacks a factual basis. Do you know it dropped off for a reason other than moral outrage?

Peace,
Ed

That may be a bit of an exaggeration. While it is true that there was a huge fall-off in attendance after the Friday night opening 11 days ago, Bruno is still doing quite well. This past weekend, it was #4 in US box office receipts, with a healthy average of $3,015 per theater.

It is more likely that is dropped off because of the word-of-mouth about the over-the-top parts among its main target audience (males 18 - 35). They failed to deliver what people wanted and had to insert a lot of filler people didn’t want to see, haha.

You know what I dont get?? Is that the ‘homosexual community’ tries so hard to gain, equal rights, treatment, respect etc…and then a movie comes out like Bruno, thats like a glaring mockery of a flamoyant gay dude…and their not offended by it…idk…it just seems to me like Bruno is portraying homosexuals as ((i dont even know what word im allowed to put here, but if you seen the movie you know what i mean)) when the community is trying to say ‘hey, were just people, like everybody else’…

like…there was this one part…where theyre joking that mexicans they’ll do anything for work…and he goes down and tells some mexican dudes he needs help with furniture…so…thinking he means ‘moving’ furniture they say yes…they get there and he asks them to POSE as furniture…and they do it…and they’re sitting on the mexican dudes…eating lunch off of em’…and they’re pretending they’re tables and chairs and the whole thing is just so DEGRADING it disgusted me…seriously … made me sick in my stomach…i cant watch c**p like that…

and im not even one of those people with no sense of humor, you know what i mean?? but like…idk maybe im bias because my kids half mexican and i know that culture and how some people are so ignorant to the beauty of it…but…im not bias to homosexuals and i think they should be equally of as offended :twocents:
