Ray Comfort, the guy Kirk Cameron is involved with in ministry is anti-Catholic.

They both have a television show where they ask questions to people on the street. They interviewed me once, and all the questions were attacks on Catholics.

“Our forefathers in the gospel shed their blood so that we could be free from the chains of Catholicism. But we must remember why their blood was shed. It was because they stood for the truth. So while it is legitimate to expose the error of Catholicism, it is even more important to stand up for the truth of the Gospel.”
- Ray Comfort

What Ray Comfort says about Mel Gibson’s "The Passion of the Christ"
“Nowadays, most Christians are rejoicing that amidst the filth of Hollywood, suddenly another movie has been produced that flies in the face of everything for which Hollywood stands. That movie is “The Passion of the Christ.” But some are deeply concerned that it was also directed and produced by a Roman Catholic.”

About "The Ten Commandments"
“You may be aware that Hollywood has produced a blockbuster movie centered on the things of God. You may also know that it was directed and produced by a Roman Catholic. While the film was based on Scripture, it contained a number of scenes that cannot be corroborated by the Bible. The movie I am referring to is the ever-popular Cecil B. DeMille’s “The Ten Commandments,” staring Charlton Heston. Mr. DeMille was a Roman Catholic, and he took artistic license by portraying Moses as having a romance while he was in Egypt, and actually disguising himself as a Hebrew slave to tread out bricks.”

So, if their ministry is so against movies made by Catholics, why should Catholics support their movies?

Maybe to help stop the conflict between Christians? Christians along with Catholics are under enough attack from the secular left, we do not need to help promote friction between Christians. Please just take the movie for its worth to our society and stop looking for more conflict.

Just because a few Baptist take their churches teachings (though wrong) too seriously, we should not participate in the dispute. I have a few Baptist friends and we are 99% in agreement on most moral issues. If we stay close to them and explain our differences hopefully we will some day come 100% together. Remember pre vatican II we Catholics used to do the same.

nicely stated, gakroeger…I understand what you mean:)

Wow, I’m being stalked by ChattyCathy! Awesome!

If I didn’t think it had happened before, I might be worried or concerned 🙂

Seriously, it does kind of concern me that people are tracking my every move on the internet . . . kind of creepy, really, I suppose.

Anyway, since ChattyCathy says on other threads that she’s been to the studio to attend tapings . . . . this means I’ve probably met her! So, I just have to try to guess who she is . . .

With reference to my choice to review or not review movies, there are a number of things I can say;

i) It’s my show.
ii) It’s my show.
iii) It’s my show.
iv) It’s my show, and I explain my view-point in the latest Catholic Critic on RealCatholicTV.com

Also, the original post which sparked the discussion on RealCatholicTV.com was a statement that I “NEED” to review the movie. In capitals. Using the word “NEED”.

As I explained - no, I don’t “NEED” to review it. In fact, I chose not to - it’s not a movie which, frankly, interested me. And, as I explained elsewhere on the forum and in the show, I am not very interested in reviewing works with an explicit Christian message - I am much more interested in working with secular art and trying to find the message inside it.

Also, it’s my show 🙂

My husband and I saw this movie last night. It is the best movie I have seen in a long time…although we don’t get to the movies often.
Dr.Colleen mentioned it on her show, so I though it had to be pretty good.
I cried really hard in a couple of scenes. My husband and I were at the same place this couple was a couple of years ago so I could really relate. Our struggles also led to our reversion.
I would really reccomend this movie!!!

My dh and I are struggling too and I thought he would get a lot from the movie for he is like the character of Kirk, but no go. He continues to be selfish and I continue to do everything. I got my part and I need to appreciate him and respect him, but it is hard when he doens’t do anything around the house or out of the house. He just eats, sleeps and watches TV and no he doesn’t work. WE are both disabled veterans, young one, but still disabled. I just wish he could have gotten the bulk of the message, but it went over his head. I don’t know if it has to do with his major depression and mental illness, but I guess I give up and things will stay as they are and we are both unhappy.😦

He did say the movie was great. I think it was great too. I know of another couple that are separated and the husband has an addiction to pornography just like the character in the movie. He came out of there understanding his wife’s view and told me, “I have been so selfish and wasted so much of our money on this trash and now I have ruined my marriage. I need to take a long hard look at myself and change.” He obviously got the message of the movie and is changing. He joined a group of sex addiction people and is going to confession offend and goes to daily Mass. My dh goes to confession weekly too and goes to daily Mass, and this man did too before the movie, but he is now really changing the way he use to think of women and said he took advantage of his wife and doesn’t blame her for leaving him. They are not divorced, but separated and live in separate states. The wife could not take his anger and his addiction to porn that he has had for 30 years anymore. I pray for them to work things out, but it took his wife leaving him for him to open his eyes. He loved the movie and was the one to tell us to go watch it.

The movie was great. I just wonder how many marriages with marital problems have seen it and have changed for the better.🤷 I hope a lot!

I just watched this movie and it was terrific!!👍

I bought the dvd …

This movie is a great movie. Everyone should see. All ages. It is great. Its called FireProof. My daughter actually told me about it.

I would especially recommend it to any marriages that are in trouble. And to good marriages, it will make them ever better!

Rent it. Its awesome!👍

Anyone have any opinions about the Kirk Cameron movie “Fireproof?”

I watched this movie Monday night with my parents. I thought it was a good movie, but didn’t really pay much attention to it until about half way through. I understand the producers are anti-Catholic, one vehemently so, but this movie helped bring me back to the Church after being away for nearly 2 years. I think regardless of a persons views and whatnot, if a particular method helps either bring a failing marriage back to life or bring a lost soul at least closer to God that has to be commended. I could tell the protestant underpinnings of the movie, but that didn’t affect very much.

I have not yet seen this movie. My wife and I went through some simlar issues and are on the mend but still have a little ways to go. My wife was extremely hurt by the problem that I had (same as the Kirk character). In fact it is still a (understandibly) big hurtle for her. She doesn’t ever want to discuss it (the problem has been gone for almost a year). My question is would watching this movie help or hurt her? Are the scenes involving the computer going trigger bad memories? Would it provide a medium for us to improve communication?

Thanks for any opinions you can provide.

Not knowing your situation and not having had to deal with that problem it is really hard to say. I know that a few years ago Denzel Washington directed and co-starred in a movie called “Antwone Fisher” about a young man in the Navy who had to deal with some emotional issues because of being abused as a kid. My wife could not watch the movie because she too was abused as a kid.

A few people have recommended the movie to me simply because I’m a firefighter. I haven’t heard (until here) about the producers being anti-Catholic but I do know that Kirk Cameron is and I have a problem with that. Pax†

Kirk Cameron interview

What about Clarence Gilyard who played Pastor Barnes in Left Behind and has talked about his faith?

Cameron: When I asked Clarence, he said he was a devout Catholic, and what he means by that, I’m not exactly sure. I would say there are significant differences between biblical Christianity and Roman Catholicism, but even within Protestant circles and Catholic circles, you’ve got a whole gamut of different beliefs and where people come down on certain issues. So as far as I knew, there weren’t a lot of Christians that I could sit down and say, “Hey, we’re on the same page and we understand the essentials of the faith.”

I think a lot of Christian production companies try very hard to tuck that Christian stuff away. Even if their script has to do with Christianity, they desperately want to be taken seriously as a real Hollywood production company, so they kind of hide all that stuff. Whereas working on Fireproof, this was produced by a church—this is just an extension of their marriage ministry – so there was no camouflaging the fact that this was a ministry project.

Just wondering if anyone out there has seen the movie Fireproof with Kirk Cameron?

I bought it a few weeks ago and watched it with my husband. Really changed our attitudes and opened our minds making us want to be a better husband and wife.
