I had a real problem with even looking at Ted Haggard… just knowing what a hypocrite he is…
I haven’t seen it, but I think I know the set-up. Cold showers, runs, bad food to create an artificial sense of hardship, lots of group exercises to create loyalty.Has anyone seen this?! I’m eighteen and I have to say that I admire these kids for their love of Christ, but it all just seems like their being indoctrinated. I personally feel that I have a faith just as strong as theirs, but my parents didn’t have to pound it into me. I felt like I truly chose my faith and contemplated it…and I’m STILL contemplating it! Isn’t that the definition of the word?!! These kids seem so robotic about it and the way they were so black and white about Christianity reminded me of how the Pharisees approached Judaism…
Thoughts?
I was taken aback, I think, because their faith appeared forced. I have a soft spot for this. Because, in a sense, I was forced into Baptism at the age of 7. There is a difference between teaching your children to love Jesus and who Jesus is, and Jesus’ purpose…but to have them speaking about where God is and isn’t and taking such harsh stands, when they should be worrying about who likes them at school…kwim? These children didn’t appear to be children…my opinon.Yes, I’ve seen it. I admire the kids for being gung-ho for Jesus but some of the ways it seems the kids were taught is scary. Like the one girl, Rachel I think, who says God isn’t in churches who do scream and shout. That made me mad. And when the lady minister told them to speak in tounges, that bothered me too. I know that some do have that gift but I don’t think you can just command it like she did.
I agree with this, but I also agree with this -I would seriously question how authentic the movie is at depicting real Bible-Christians. I am certain that the producers had an agenda - making them look like wackos?
I think the producers probably went in with an agenda, but they didn’t need to doctor it a whole lot to get their point across. The producers did not have to make them look like whackos - they do that all on their own.
