Has anyone had a look at ‘The Rite’ trailer yet? It looks quite interesting but am I sinning for wanting to watch this movie?

I really don’t think wanting to watch a movie out of legitimate curiosity could be considered sinful. (Even if it were, say, pornography, a non-consenting desire to watch it would not be sinful, that would be temptation.)I just saw the trailer, looks darn scary and it says its ‘based from a true story’. Wow.
Hmmm, that’s interesting.I really don’t think wanting to watch a movie out of legitimate curiosity could be considered sinful. (Even if it were, say, pornography, a non-consenting desire to watch it would not be sinful, that would be temptation.)
For the record, I think the movie looks awesome and I plan on seeing it. Anthony Hopkins is always great, really disconcerting. Just take what you see with a (very large) grain of salt. If you want to find out what the life of an exorcist is really like, read Fr. Gabriele Amorth’s An Exorcist Tells His Story.
Yeah, honestly, it’s probably best to stay away from these things as a layperson.Hmmm, that’s interesting.
I don’t like researching exorcisms much because I tend to get really frightened
I might have a look at that book some day though!
“We have the gift of the Spirit, the Eucharist, the word of God, the power of the name of Jesus, the protection of the Blessed Virgin, the intercession of the angels and saints; is it not silly to fear the vanquished?”
—Fr. Gabriele Amorth (An Exorcist Tells His Story: Ignatius, p. 196)
It is based on the same book titled “The Rite-the making of an exorcist” by Matt Baglio, based on the real experiences of an american priest sent to Rome to train as an exorcist. I have read the book and I cannot wait to see the movie version. It is very chilling and informative. I am wondering how the movie will portray the opening of book, where there is an actual exorcism taking place, and there us supernatural assistance in several saints coming in prayers, and the BVM also joining in prayers…I suggest that you read the book…So I saw this trailer for a new movie that will be released later this month. At first I thought it was about Fr. Gabriele Amorth’s book. Then it quickly changed.
It seems to be about an older priest (played by Anthony Hopkins) and a much younger one dealing with possession etc.
So maybe like “The Exorcist”? No I don’t think so. Even though the preview did look like it could be interesting, and show a balanced view on what an exorcist really does.
But since it is Hollywood, I doubt it. I hope I am wrong, but I doubt it, even though it is “based on a true story.”
So, what do you all think? Another film that misrepresents what the Church is all about, a horror film, or something that could actually be worth while to see?
In Christ,
Nevermore
this will be one of those movies Ill see first thing in the morning so I have the rest of the day to prepare for sleep cause If i watch this before I go to bed I won’t be able to sleep
i’m sure they will hollywoodize it but hoepfully it doesn’t change church teaching, well you know not really change it but make it look that wayI didn’t even know about this movie until last night when I saw a commercial for it. I did read the book, and it is excellent, written by a very devout Catholic. Do you know if the movie is loyal to the book, or are they “hollywoodizing” it?
