Moving in With Fornicating Couple?

A couple who are engaged certainly have made a love commitment to each other. It could be argued that they are already married by their engagement, but are just waiting for it to become official.
Here is the problem with this line of thinking… The engagement period typically is when the future bride & groom start getting closer to the future in-laws. The wedding planning alone often reveals lots about family and your future spouse.

There have been many engagements throughout history have have been called off due to things that have been learned during the engagement period.

We the engaged couple lives together, it makes it that much harder to call it off - leading to the couple getting married and then eventually divorced due to “no fault divorce”.

There is a strong reason whey couples who fornicate before marriage stand a much higher chance of getting divorced… the sex (or living together) prevents them from noticing or ending the relationship based on the subtle differences.

God bless

are neutral words
Apparently it eludes you that Catholicism, Christianity, and just about every religion out there considers fornication a sin. That’s why we don’t use a neutral term. The use of the term “fornication” isn’t a mistake, or bad manners on our part. It is intentional, because we believe fornication to be bad. Get it yet?

If you believe “sex outside marriage” is fine then you may keep on doing it. But to ask people on a religious forum to not express themselves in religious terms, is just plain silly.

Actually I agree. That is why I said “it could be argued…”: rather than “I think”. From what I have read the rate of divorce of those who had premarital sex is 50% higher than those who waited until they married to have sex.

You can do better in your living situation. You don’t need to move in with your sister and her paramour.

The problem with trying to “sanitize” sins is that it downplays their true evil. This sin offends God greatly, and should not be whitewashed. It is not to drive people apart, but rather to help them. Only then can the they repent and return to a state of grace. Saint Augustine once said “love the sinner, hate the sin”. This sums up the spirit of it.

Tough decision; however, I think you already know what the right answer is and are looking for a way out of your moral dilemma. The best and most straight-forward reply to your sister’s request is:

" Sister, I love you, but no, as a faithful and practicing Catholic Christian, I can not, in good conscience, move in with you while you are not living a chaste life with another. I do not want give the impression that I am alright with your life-choice and potentially and unintentionally lead others to believe it is okay too."

This way, you both honest with her and giving a clear and unambiguous example of your Catholic faith. If she respects you and your life-choice as a committed Catholic, she should understand.

If it was me - no way.
Jesus may have talked with the tax collectors and sinners -
but he didn’t live under the same roof - with them.
As for - you - being ‘an example’ to them - no way - good luck with that.
Might as well hang out at a bar - and preach sobriety - lol

Be careful…on what you decide.
Sounds like she needs a pet sitter too -
is it worth it - to move out - into that scenario ?
