Moving to another pew when someone sits in front of us, a scandal?

This thread just goes to show theres lot’s of different views. I for one get MANY dirty looks when I sit during the Gospel and consecration, but I know it to be right.
Sit? Never heard that one before…

My son will often sit during the Gospel. He has a brain injury, and standing often gives him vertigo.
Yes that would be perfectly fine and of course even expected. Is that why the poster was saying they sit because they know it to be right? Because of a disability? Did I miss that?

I don’t know, that poster didn’t specify.

I just know I’m already nervous about my son. Most of the parish knows about it his injury. But if perhaps they didn’t recognize him, or not remember, I wouldn’t want anyone think he was disrespectful of the Mass, or on some type of drugs, or drunk.

I worry about his future if/when he starts driving etc.

That’s my new job, official worrying mother.

Don’t worry more than necessary. ;). But that is a mothers job…

Ya I’ve tried that…it’s a whole other discussion. All it does is anger the elderly folks. Heck last time I did that, 2 of them made some smart allec comment on a nice loud voice for me to hear. I wasn’t even in reserved seating! But I guess it was far enough up where it was considered “their seat” in their minds

…jerks
I don’t think they should have said anything, but I also think “jerks” is kind of strong for two elderly ladies. The elderly often have a very difficult time walking from the back to communion, then around to their seat again.

I think we all have to be more considerate of one another. Some people have to sit in or near the front. Others have to sit during the Gospel, etc. because standing for longer than a minute causes them physical problems. Others cannot kneel. We have all those and more in my church and no one bats an eyelash at them.

If we can’t be understanding of our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ in Christ’s own church, where can we be?

Jerks?
How about acting like a committed Catholic and refrain from judging others?
People are ticky about where they sit, yes. Reserved sating? I’ve never been to a church with reserved seating.
But the only way that is going to change is if people sit where they please and focus on the MASS. How do people perceive you? Do you really know?
It seems as though you project your personal views on everyone in every situation.
Do you have a spiritual director? You should talk to him or her about this and other things.
I think you might be missing out on a lot. 🤷
Our church does have a couple of pews reserved for people with mobility problems/wheelchairs. Mind you, I once sat there when new to the church (they aren’t terribly well marked), and no one said anything. 😉 From what I understand, the way they’re set up makes it a lot easier for the extraordinary ministers to get to the people sitting in those pews so that they don’t have to stand up or try to walk to get Communion–a lot of them are really frail, and dealing with the steps en route to the various Communion lines could mean a nasty fall.

(No, I don’t know who thought it was a brilliant idea to scatter random, unmarked, non-handrailed steps throughout a church. Le sigh.)

As to the rest, ditto! It’s something I have to remember, too, in bringing a toddler to Mass who’s still learning about sitting still and behaving quietly during Mass. Many people are wonderful about her occasional squeaks, while others can give some rather nasty looks. Need to work on ignoring the looks, focusing on the Mass, and being thankful for the kind people we usually sit near.

Your not doin any wrong thing at that istance because no one knows why you move from the pew. Some may think mat be you don’t see well, some you can’t hear the priest out. So many things come to there mind. But one thing you do not do is gazing at them for a while before taking your move. You should take your move as soon as you noticethe couple. So with that you have no wrong:thumbsup:
