My priest has already told me that he will offer a Traditional Latin Mass if the motu proprio is signed - once he completes any gaps in his abilities. šŸ‘

Don’t be so pessimistic. I think the number of Bishops who will take a strong anti-TLM stance (i.e. preventing it) is smaller than you think. So, then it is up to the parishes and the priests. Hopefully, more priests like ours are out there, willing to take on the task.
I don’t see anyway that a priest trained in the Novus Ordo will be able to say the Traditional Mass without an extensive amount of work. I would say at least a year. First he has to know as much Latin as possible. Every gesture in the TLM means something. And what about the altar boys{no girls} how are they going to learn all that is needed without serious training.

Are they going to wheel in altars that have the Tabernacle so that they can wheel it back out in time for the Novus Ordo?

Too many questions. To early to get excited.

You are assuming a lot. Not all priests have the same amount or type of exposure/training, so you shouldn’t categorize all priests the same way. Also, our parish has an altar with a Tabernacle. For those that don’t, the conversion can be done - someone posted a video from France once.

It will be more difficult for some than for others[Edited by Moderator]

…This may sound overly pessimistic, and it probably is, but the Church will have hundreds of millions of fewer adherents in the future than it has now. It is dead or dying in Canada, the US, and most of Europe. I just hope the Church can keep it’s Tradition alive in such places as Africa, South America, and Asia. Just as Irish Catholicism shaped what the Church became, so will the Catholicism of those three continents shape what the Church will become in the future…
This may be true, but this could change in an instant. And the Motu Propio may be (but does not necassarily have to be) the catalyst to do it.

Then again it may continue until Satan’s ā€œlittle timeā€ comes. Who knows (besides the Father)?

…This is an issue I think many people are overlooking, the MP is JUST THE BEGINNING, once the hands are untied of those who WANT to attend (including priests) then it will slowly start gaining traction and will in fact become unstoppable. The backbone of every parish are the Catholic families WHO CARE (and generally are the more conservative), and once they start leaving for the TLM there will be a clear distinction between those Catholics who want to be fed and those misguided once who want to push their own version of Catholicism. This is about going where you can get fed and find shelter…
I hope the MP does not become the *cause cĆ©lĆØbre *for creation of the ā€œAmerican Catholic Churchā€ (and possibly the ā€œFrench Catholic Churchā€)!

I HEAR what you are saying, it would be utterly devastating if the MP has no teeth…by the sound of things however it WILL…
The other factor that is not being discussed here is that if the SSPX are normailized in the near future, the MP will have at a small army supporting it, and an uncontroversial place for any Catholics to go if the MP is blocked in their diocese. That is why I think it is critical to get the SSPX normalized.

The newer seminarians are getting more Latin than those in previous decades. I know a few recent Ordinadi who regularly say the Latin NO Mass.

My own (NO) pastor is on the ā€˜rotation’ of priests who say the TLM at our Indult parish ( along with 2 of our auxillary bishops šŸ‘ )

Of course, the FSSP is offering training at their seminary in the US, and even the SSPX released videos to instruct NO priests on how to say the Tridentine Mass.

So there will be resources available to most priests. The ones I am most concerned for are those in diocese that no not have a tradition of Latin NO Masses.

I think the MP and normalization will go hand in hand…no MP, no hope of normalization.

And also more serious discussions can start with the Orthodox church, who will insist on preserving their traditions should any kind of unity occur with the Vatican.

You all seem to think every Roman Catholic is going to demand the TLM. Their not!. Especially the pastors and modernist Roman Catholics who love the NO Mass and Vatican 2, which sadly is the majority of Roman Catholics. Roman Catholicism is incompatible with Orthodoxy, no matter what most Roman Catholics think!. Roman Catholics should have never separated themselves from world wide Orthodoxy. It was bad enough we lost communion with the Oriental Orthodox. In todays world we now have more in common with the Oriental Orthodox, then we do with Roman Catholics. Stop dreaming!. Their is a prayerful relationship with Rome yes. That’s it!!.

Someones a bit pessimistic…

Sheesh…even Fr Ambrose isn’t that harsh.

Can we get back to discussing the impact of the motu proprio on Catholics? I don’t think it has anything to do with the Orthodox.

As a ā€œNO Catholicā€ (it is all I have known), I am looking forward to my parish offering the TLM. No one thinks that ā€œevery ā€˜Roman Catholic’ is going to demand the TLM,ā€ but a significant number will be drawn to it. Even more through prayer and example.
