Unfortunately the new speaker would be more likely to bring a bill UNLIKE that to the floor. After last night, this new bill would stand a better chance getting passed.

That being said, the republicans have been a huge disappointment and should have done more when they could.
I think they did what they could given that they did not have a super majority in either the House or the Senate. They got the partial birth abortion bill to Bush, the one that Clinton vetoed. You also have to remember that there are quite a few Rockefeller Republicans on the scene and they generally do not vote very conservatively.

Miguel,

Thank you so much for your response. When I tell people that the lawmakers should be writing laws against abortion they look at me like I’m nuts because of the Roe v Wade decision.

I’m certainly not an attorney, but I do know that congress is responsible for writing bills that may become law. For too long the average citizen has labeled lawmakers pro-life or pro-choice by their party affiliation. That is wrong because it is presumptous. It tells me nothing about an individuals personal thoughts or philosophy.

Action speak louder than words is the old saying and it’s still true today. I don’t see any lawmaker introducing a bill banning abortion, from either party. So who are the hipocrits here? Democrats? Or, Republicans? Maybe I should read the pro-life plank in the Republican platform, because I’ve never read it. Maybe it’s written in lawyer-speak and may not say what we assume it to mean. I do assume it to mean that Republicans are against abortion. Like I said actions speak louder than words. From this old birds perch I can’t tell you that any lawmaker, regardless of party persuasion, is against abortion. They all handle it like a hot potato because they migh lose the next election.

If Nancy Pelosi says she is pro abortion I can fault her for her position but I can’t argue with her honesty.

What’s nuts is paying that kind of homage to such a lethal, unconstitutional decision…one of the worst in history.

Exactly. For the last 33 years, Republicans have been content to leave the hot potato at the Supreme Court…so they can pretend they can’t do anything. And most of us pro-lifers (self included) have been gullible enough to go along. “Yeah pro-lifers, keep voting for us and we’ll keep fighting to put pro-life judges on the Court.” This is nothing but a delay tactic…with a huge death toll. It’s time pro-lifers wise up.

Publicly we know where she stands…no doubt. But that doesn’t let her off the hook in the honesty department, IMO. She still must square her public stance with her personal (Catholic) conscience. The only way to do that is by self-deception.

Its a basic tenent of Christianity that killing the unborn is morally wrong.

Not sometimes wrong. To democrats “rare” means opposing bans on gruesome partial birth abortion. Both Edwards and Kerry voted against such bans - only 4 senators to so in the last vote when it came up.

Voting for Kerry and Edwards was like voting for the most extreme members of an already abortion party.

You cannot be for abortion and be a democratic nominee for President. Gore, “Reverend Jackson”, etc, were all Pro-life until they had ambitions to be President. They knew which way their party goes. And just like good catholic liberals they went with Party over Faith just like the Catholics here do.

Pelosi needs to be thrown out and called out on the carpet by the Catholic Church.

But it will never happen.

Rascal One,

What do you say we pray for her to be reconciled to the Church. The power of prayer is great.

While we’re praying we ought to pray for the Lord to send the Holy Spirit to touch all of our confressmen and women, including the republicans to have a change of heart and soul to be open to the possibility of banning abortion.
