Facts and truth have little or nothing to do with it. People tend to believe in and watch those stations/folks that most agree with and support their prejudiced ideas whether left or right, progressive or conservative.

MSNBC (which of course is the counterpart for NBC) has now been uncovered by Fox News to be directly connected with the Obama Administration. No surprise about Keith Olberman. He either paints and OBAMAESQUE picture or he is out the door.

The explosion of news networks and the internet have really made most people less well informed, because it is now so easy to avoid any point of view that does not agree with what people already believe. I think many people find it comforting never to have to be exposed to an opinion that contradicts their own.

I have interpreted “shock”, as used within this context, as “any sudden disturbance or agitation of the mind or emotions, as through great loss or surprise**” (Webster’s New World Dictionary).

I put that up against the claim of being “unsurprised” and, well, I suppose you can see the incongruity. One cannot be surprised and unsurprised at the same time, at least not without a multiple personality disorder.

Not to mention half the time I flip through the channels and see MSNBC, I feel like I’m watching CrimeTV (Lockup at San Quinten, To Catch a Predator, etc. are on more than actual news it seems) . Keith Olbermann, while initially funny years ago, seems to be losing it as of late…

To Catch a Predator is a great show and pervertedjustice.com is an awesome organization. While I do not like most of what’s on MSNBC let’s give credit where credit is due there are a lot of pedophiles in jail because of this show and the stings they have helped to facilitate.

Our Government thinks that. They made Google remove an image from Google earth which showed the fence of a military installation even though the pictures were taken from a legal distance. Their stance was, “Don’t do the terrorists homework for them.”

Whoa, relax! I realize you never said anything about outlawing it. I apologize if my post made it sound that way.

As I read your post I recalled what has happened in Canada since the passing of their hate speech law. That is all.

As far as truthful language, my response was addressing a subset of what you describes as words that provoke hate and vitriol. In the future, please try to assume that people are not making a personal attack or twisting your words.
