On October 28th, Father Otto Messmer died, died as the martyr. I remember, one day we have spoken with Father Otto about death. I’ve asked him if I shall die, to serve upon me the ancient Trent Mass, I and couldn’t think that he will leave before me. Therefore for the sake of him I serve my Mass, the Mass of truth, rather looking for the truth, since Mass it is a serving to the God. And everyone can serve the God the way he can. The Mass to defend his honest name. As Christ said to the pupils, “That you hear secretly, preach out loud on the roofs”.
His death is tried to be presented as a domestic murder, but the one who knew this person will never believe in that, and the one who knew him very well, won’t believe in that at all. Thus church authorities, Vatican and the top management of Society of Jesus, trying to make a gentle face, during an evil action. They pretend that are interested in investigation, etc. Actually not only they have killed that holy person, but they also trying to bespatter his reputation. Certainly, they are not doing that by their own hands, but giving journalists favorable for them information, different for each country, they choose that there will be apprehended by the inhabitant on hurrah. For Russia it is “zest”, for Kazakhstan where everyone knew Father Otto and would not believe in such thing, it is a robbery, at least it was described that way to Kazakhstan people at first days. And, for example, for the USA, it is a hint at the conflict of Catholics and orthodox. Though Orthodox in this business are not involved at all. Though it is necessary to outline, that all hierarchs no matter what religion, whether Catholics, Orthodox or Protestants, all are hypocrites and possesors! Thus, clerics leave for themselves an opening, ostensibly that in this business a lot of discrepancies and they conduct a parallel investigation. Now, a little about an official version. It is a lot you can get by yourself in the Internet. Here only citations from the Russian press on the Internet and similar press in the USA.
“Bodies of two monks-jesuits have been found in the center of Moscow. The murderer has broken heads of 42-years old Victor Betankur and 47-years old Otto Messmer. A five-room apartment on Petrovka street in which there was a tragedy, belongs to the Russian division of an Jesuits Order of Catholic church and it is specially intended for residing at it of monks. One of killed - Otto Messmer - was the head of this division. He has recently received the Russian citizenship. The second, the citizen of Ecuador Victor Betankur - made services in a temple of the Sacred Lui on Lubianka street.
As police informed, priests were missing on 26th October. Since then they did not get in touch with anybody and did not answer calls. At last on October 28th the bookkeeper of the organization Paul Subbotin managed to get through on the phone to an apartment. But the receiver was picked up by the stranger. He spoke in English, with strong accent. Besides he was obviously drunk. On requests to call to phone Otto or Victor has muttered, that they are sleeping, and has hung up. The frustrated Subbotin has decided to go to an apartment himself. Having pushed unlocked door, he has entered and has shuddered: everywhere there were traces of blood. Having seen bodies of the monks, the frightened bookkeeper has caused police.
In an apartment detectives have found empty bottles of absinthe liqueur, packs of cigarettes and… two used condoms. Also have found out, that during murder there was someone, the third person. But who? It has appeared, that Victor Betankur had close enough communications with students of RUDN University, had been respectable in that society. And with one of them - the Cuban - was in close and enough intimate relationships. This information provided one of members of an Order, the close friend of the victim. Neighbors of the house as well saw fleeing out of an entrance the man looked like a Latin American.
Investigation works on two basic versions of murder: because of personal dislike or with the purpose of a robbery (while detectives did not manage to find out, whether something from an apartment was gone). Main suspected - that Cuban”.
Might the murdered priests have been involved in “aggressive” proselytism?Maria Cioccoloni, a Jesuit spokeswoman in Rome, says that for seven years Betancourt handled pastoral relations with Russians who were possibly interested in joining the Society of Jesus. It’s unclear what that entailed. “He was doing pastoral work with students and people in the parish, with young people,” Cioccoloni says. Asked if those young people were already Catholics, she says, "[They] don’t have to be [Catholics] – they can also be from other religions."Catholic-Orthodox relations have been rocky since the east-west division of Christianity in 1054. John Paul II, the late Polish pope, had sought to improve ties with the church of his country’s giant neighbor, but Russian Orthodox officials never granted his lifelong wish to visit Russia. In 2004, 300 religious leaders gathered in Russia to pray for strengthening religious tolerance. But tellingly, Catholics were not included among the invited “traditional” religions of Orthodoxy, Judaism, Islam, and Buddhism.Catholics and other non-Orthodox Christian denominations in Russia have also been victims of past violence. A Slovak priest was killed in 2005 in Bryansk, apparently by robbers, while an American Episcopal priest was killed last August in Moscow. The motives were unclear. Non-Orthodox Christian leaders in Russia complain frequently that the authorities and police often act belatedly to their pleas for protection. Completely prohonour this clause. And on all English-speaking Internet a lot of articles with similar hints.
