Haha yes it would be great if every parish could have a choir and a music lineup like my diocese’s cathedral has. But that’s not the case for most parishes, including mine.
 
Speaking of ordinations, here is the music from an ordination I was at. It was in Madison, WI, but I’m not from the area, I was just in town for the ordination:

Does anyone know where I can get sheet music for the Gregorian Chant Alleluia Mode IV? I heard it at a funeral today, and I thought that it was really beautiful.

Are you by any chance referring to the same Mode VI Alleluia that you asked about in this thread? Because I’m not familiar with any special one in Mode IV that could be identified without further information.

This is what I chose for my mother’s funeral back in 1994:

Entrance Processional: I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say
Psalm: The Lord is My Light and My Salvation
Offertory: Ave Maria (her request)
Communion: We Have Been Told
Recesisonal: Sing with All the Saints in Glory

It was the very first liturgy I ever planned. I have learned a lot since then. This is what I chose for my paternal grandmother’s funeral. Her funeral Mass was the Thursday before Holy Week:

Entrance Processional: Attende Domine
Psalm: The Lord is my shepherd (her request)
Offertory: I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say
Communion: We Have Been Told
Recessional: Salve Regina

Now, for Sunday, this is what I have in mind:

Entrance: Antiphon from the SEP
Psalm: Taken from the Grail Psalter
Offertory: How Firm a Foundation
Communion: Antiphon from the SEP and then I Received the Living God
Recessional:There’s a Wideness in God’s Mercy

I think “How Firm a Foundation” really fits the readings this weekend, particularly the second and Gospel. “We Walk by Faith” kind of goes hand-in-hand as well.
 
I’m sorry to barge in here with a non-liturgical music question, but I didn’t know where else to post it.

My wife and I are learning how to play the guitar, and we’re looking for a good Catholic songbook with chords and tabs (for picking). Does anyone know of a good one?

Is there another thread where I should post the question?

Only three times? Lucky you. It used to be the Sanctus of choice in one parish I belonged to and the Sanctus of choice for all the “Family Masses” in my present parish. Thankfully, the “Family Masses” went the way of the dodo (they were an excuse for bad music, illiterate child readers, lay ‘children homilies’ that contained heresy and children around the altar for the EP) and the present choir have recently given up the MOC.
 
After much discussion, I think we have reached the consensus that the easiest transition is going to be to the revised Mass of Creation for the new Mass translation. I admit I was impressed that it was actually changed to follow the words faithfully, including the Lamb of God, which it had formerly failed to do. I noted that the Mass of Remembrance did the same thing in the revision. Many of the newer settings were not as faithful to the translation as I would like, with too much repetition of phrases. I kind of liked the new Celtic Glory and that may come along after the dust settles.
 
I went to a Low Mass in the Extraordinary Form at noon today. It was nice.

I really like the psalm and Gospel Acclamation setting Alstott did for the Assumption. It’s really beautiful.
 
I am leaving for the airport at 7 a.m. on Thursday for Rome, so I just wanted to say that I’ll remember you all when I am in Rome and Spain for World Youth Day. I’m going to miss CAF! The flight leaves Pittsburgh at 10:25 a.m., and then we enter Washington D.C. at 11:28 a.m. for four hours, and then we leave at 3:25 p.m. and fly to Frankfurt, Germany. We arrive there at 5:20 a.m. Frankfurt time, which would be Friday, and that would only be 11:20 p.m. Thursday my time! I don’t know how I’ll deal with this sleeping pattern. Then we leave Frankfurt at 7:35 a.m. and head for Rome. I believe we get in Rome at about 9:20 a.m., and we leave at 12:10 p.m. on the Assumption and head to Madrid. I’m so excited! We don’t leave Madrid until August 24!

He’s not that terrible of a composer in my opinion. His compositions aren’t perfect, but they’re still usually pretty good. I’ll be seeing them this Wednesday at my schola’s rehearsal. I was really surprised that OCP included the readings and such for Assumption, seeing as the obligation to attend Mass was abrogated in the United States.
