Hi There,

Our Parish is using Graziano Marcheschi’s Way of the Cross for one of our Friday Night Stations, and we have always used the piano accompaniment that matches the books we use. This year however we are having our young people lead it, and only have a guitar player rather than a pianist, and our sheet music doesn’t have chords!.

Does anyone have chords for the Stabat Mater (88 7; Mainz Gesangbuch, key of G) that they would be willing to share? We have been searching fruitlessly online without finding any free chords. If anyone has these and is willing to share them, we would be exceptionally grateful!

Mary

PS I’m not entirely sure if this is the right thread to post this in, so please forgive me if it is not and let me know where I should be instead!

I would try OCP (www.ocp.org)

It’s not free, but it’s cheap. Only a few bucks for the accompaniment.

Need some ideas for music during the Sacrament of Confirmation.

We have about 35 candidates being confirmed, so a couple songs will be needed. This is the first time I’ve been part of a Mass with confirmation.

I’m assuming something about the Holy Spirit would be in order, but I’m not sure what exactly would be suitable.

Thanks!

The best confirmation hymn is Come Down, O Love Divine. Set to the hymn tune Down Ampney there is no finer hymn.

My favorite two are “Come Holy Ghost” and “Veni Sancte Spiritus.”

This last week, and next week, I am entering on Christ the Lord is Risen Today just to get used to the tune for the Ascension, Hail the Day that Sees Him Rise.

I don’ think I have ever been to a Mass on Ascension day without Hail the Day that Sees Him Rise. Surely one of the easiest tunes for a congregation to sing (to the tune Llanfair)?

I am sure we will also have All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name (to Miles Lane), The Lord Ascendeth up on High (to the beautiful Nun Freut Euch) and Rejoice the Lord is King.

That’s the one. Now, let me tell on myself. I really goofed this last weekend. I left my glasses at home and my spare pair at church I had taken home by accident a month ago. I could hardly read the words and flubbed the words twice. At least we got the tune down, and I had my wife step up an cover the Psalm, which I also could not read.

I had to run home during the homily to get my glasses in order to finish. 😊

B’s and E’s look a lot alike, but they do not sound much alike, btw.

Things happen from time to time. Keeps us somewhat humble I think.

Hi! I am a second grade song leader for First Communion and am looking for a new song to sing next May. Anyone have any ideas for me? We could add signing to the song. We sing this for the parents after communion as a meditation.

Thanks

Songs shouldn’t be sung “For the parents” at mass.

I put a stop to the performance song at First communion long ago.

Being in May, a nice Marian song might work. I often use the “Hail Mary” part of Gentle Woman or O Sanctissima. I think it is a great idea for the First Communion class to lead singing. Let them jump right in and put them to work.

Otherwise, any communion hymn could be used. My kids like We Come to Your Feast best and that works well in Easter.
