Yes it is Foley’s arrangment. The congregation handles it well here. I normally transpose a whole down for the 7:30 am Mass though. When all else fails with a new song you really like, transpose and see what happens. Often times with highrr-note music, if you teach in a lower key you can work your way up once the congregation knows it well.

Sunday, July 13, 2014 - Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time - Year A

Processional Hymn: #617 - “Rain Down” Cortez
Preparation of the Gifts: #361 - “Seed, Scattered and Sown” Feiten

Recessional Hymn: #595 - “Let All Things Now Living” ASH GROVE

The music selections for this weekend have been changed due to the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the formation of our parish. The town of my church is a very historic one; many different nationalities settled in the town; therefore, there were five different parishes, each relating to an ethnicity. There was a Polish, Croatian, Italian, Slovak, and “territorial” parish. Due to the declining population, the Slovak church was closed, and the remaining parishes formed one parish in 1994. At the start of the century, it became apparent that we could not support the four church buildings, so in 2004, ten years after the merger of the parishes, three church buildings were closed, and one was kept open. It was very rough at first for a lot of people to adjust. You never really notice how attached you get to a church building. There are so many different memories - a lot of them starting from one’s childhood onward - and to see it get closed is sad; however, it also reinstates the fact that the church is not the building; it is the people. The merger was probably the greatest thing that ever could have happened.

So, for this weekend:

Processional Hymn: #414 - “All Are Welcome” Haugen/TWO OAKS
Preparation of the Gifts: #304 - “Gather the People” Schutte
Communion Hymn: #469 - “All Is Well with My Soul” VILLE DU HAVRE
Recessional Hymn: #192 - “Holy God, We Praise Thy Name” GROSSER GOTT

We ended up using the selections that were originally planned for last weekend but were changed because of the anniversary. Luckily the readings this weekend were on par with the readings from last weekend.

I’m trying to get into the habit of checking in here, so I’m going to post what we sang today. Hopefully, I’ll post what we’re doing next week BEFORE the actual mass 😃

By the way, thank you to those of you who do post. Even if I don’t use anyone’s ideas, as another poster said, I often see something in the readings I hadn’t seen before because of what you all have chosen! It’s really very helpful.

This week we retired our old carillon system, which had served the community faithfully for fifty years. IT Verdin installed a new carillon, which has a beautiful ten-inch touch-screen, and it also has a remote control, so one can enter in a code on the remote, and the system plays the selection. It’s so much better than playing tapes and doing everything by hand. We also don’t have to worry about tape wear and what not. We have officially moved into the twenty-first century!

I am still working on my September Mass songs. I have been asked to stop using “We Come to Your Feast” by my son, which I told him he would not hear if for a few months. I rotate those, and by a strange set of circumstances, he ended up at a Mass I was using in three out of four Sundays! 😃

I have placed it in my pile. I use the Pile Method to avoid overuse (usually), piling up songs and not re-using until I have run out of other options. But mistakes happen, I am jumped around Masses in August.

I will use Amazing Grace either this weekend or in two weeks. I haven’t decided. I appreciate all you organized people that post your list. I haven’t posted here for a while, but I read every post. Thanks guys.
