I got my planning guide from OCP for the Lent - Pentecost seasons, and I was planning for Lent and I noticed how OCP lacks in seasonal hymns. I am trying to refrain from some of their songs that come off to me as “bland”, and for this reason, I found myself having to use the same song 3/5 times during Lent: “Lord, Who Throughout These Forty Days”, because I wanted to refrain from using stuff such as “In These Days of Lenten Journey” and “Beyond the Days”. I knew that wouldn’t be able to last long, because I ended up having to use those at least once since their selections are rather poor and it seems like they need to add more. However, if I did recommend that to them, they’d probably add more drekish songs with bland lyrics and rhythm which would make the whole situation worse.
The Easter season was not that much of a challenge though because there is a wider selection of hymns.
This is what I have used for Lent:
Attende Domine (beautiful if you can get through all of the verses; it reminds us that we are sinners and implores God’s mercy on us–in fact, God willing, this will show up at the Papal Ash Wednesday Mass-sans organ)
O Sun of Justice
The Glory of These 40 Days
Again We Keep This Solemn Fast
Our Father, We Have Wandered (sung to the melody of O Sacred Head Surrounded)
Parce Domine
Come, Let Us Return to the Lord (St. Meinard Abbey, I believe, or another Monastery)
The Kyrie and Lenten Gospel Acclamation from David Hurd
What Wondrous Love is This
Forgive Our Sins as We Forgive
I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say (4th Sunday of Lent Scrutiny)
Lord of All Nations, grant me grace
There’s a Wideness in God’s Mercy
