Why not just sing “Holy, Holy, Holy”? After all, it is the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity.

I’m guessing she got the idea of “God Most Holy” from the OCP planner? Yeah, the columnist suggested that it would be an appropriate time to introduce new Trinity songs.

IMO, I’m not a fan of it at all. The tune is just bland.

Why not:

All Praise and Glad Thanksgiving
O God, Almighty Father
Holy, Holy, Holy
All Hail, Adored Trinity
God, We Praise You
Holy God, We Praise Thy Name
 
Sing Praise to Our Creator is one of my favorites.

Praise the Holy Trinity,
Undivided Unity,
Holy God, Mighty God,
God Immortal be adored.

It is a very powerful hymn. We usually sing it under “All Praise and Glad Thanksgiving” or “O God, Almighty Father”. I guess “Sing Praise to our Creator” is another hymn this tune is set to.

We usually sing one of the two on Trinity Sunday.

Communion Hymn: #416 How Great Thou Art
Recessional Hymn: #497 Let There Be Peace on Earth

I thought the hymnody was very beautiful.

Now, what I expect to hear next week for the processional is “Table of Plenty”. :eek:
I used to like that song, but I kind of don’t care for it anymore. 🤷

Again, this is what I suggest for next weekend:

Preparation of the Gifts: #368 Lord, Who At Thy First Eucharist
Communion Hymn: #370 Panis Angelicus
Recessional Hymn: #199 Holy God, We Praise Thy Name

Processional Hymn: #310 Table of Plenty
Preparation of the Gifts: #324 Gift of Finest Wheat
Communion Hymn: #322 O Sacrament, Most Holy
Recessional Hymn: Differs at each Mass, late Sunday Mass will end with “Down in Adoration Falling…” and I don’t know what the other Masses will end off with.

I actually like the selections besides “Table of Plenty”. The other two I like, however.

I asked our music director to please not pick Table of Plenty nor Come to the Feast. I told her that these songs spoke nothing about the sacred Mystery that we will celebrate next Sunday. I told her that these songs were not suitable at all for the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass as they focus more on the horizontal rather than the vertical. I hope that she will take this into consideration.

I was reading over some church music suggestions from different parishes and a lot are choosing “Gather Us In” for next Sunday. I just don’t see how “Gather Us In” has to do with anything that we are about to experience - the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ.

That is just as bad, if not worse, than the rest. What are these publishing houses thinking?

Actually this is the only Sunday I will add any songs that focus on the Church as the Body of Christ. I do not use such songs for the Eucharist as inappropriate at that time. But as this is part of Corpus Christi, I do not mind using such things.

It is the only Sunday in the year I will use Table Song.

However, think that such songs dilute the mystery of this sacred feast. The solemnity is about the Real Presence, about Corpus Christi. We are secondary. The music should not focus about ourselves, but, rather the Holy Eucharist. Look at the Papal Mass this coming Thursday. The music is oriented towards the Blessed Sacrament, not the people.
 
Permit me to reiterate my suggestion of Lauda Sion for this coming Sunday, if not in its proper place before the Gospel then at least during the Offertory of Communion.

Offertory: Christ before us MI:525
Mass of God’s Promise MI:884/885/889/890
Communion: Now we remain MI:520
Recessional: Lord, You give the great commission MI:381
 
I got drafted at literally the last minute to pick the music and serve as cantor for tonight’s Mass, sans musical instruments. Luckily, my dad’s parish has great acoustics. Here is what I picked, given it was so last minute:

Entrance: At that First Eucharist
Offertory: O Sacrament Most Holy
Communion: Alleluia, Sing to Jesus
Recessional: Holy God, We Praise Thy Name

I also chanted the psalm and the Gospel Acclamation. Even though I do not read music, I remembered the tune from the psalm used for Thursday’s Papal Mass and made some modifications. We chanted the parts of the Mass.

What amazed me was that the people were singing along. Even when I received Holy Communion last, the faithful were still singing the Communion hymn. Everybody stayed behind to sing Holy God, We Praise Thy Name.

Oh, I made sure that we would not be singing anything banal. What pleased me greatly was that the faithful sang. They joined in on the singing of the traditional pieces that I chose. They do well with real hymns. They will not sing One Bread, One Body, nor Be Not Afraid. But, they will sing Holy, Holy, Holy and Holy, God, We Praise Thy Name. As I said, the acoustics are really great at the church. I managed to do most of the singing without the mike.

I am trying to help the youth group plan for next month’s holy hour. I could not take the bongo drums they were playing during last night’s holy hour. They want to use stuff from Spirit and Song, but, having leafed through the book, nothing is really appropriate for holy hour. except for the heavily edited version of Alleluia, Sing to Jesus. I totally lost all respect for that book (not that I had much in the first place), when I saw that one of the songs they included was “Lean on Me”. Yes, that “Lean on Me”. For that matter, they could have placed “Spirit in the Sky” U2’s “Gloria” (the refrain of that song is in Latin, Gloria, in te Domine) or Mister Mister’s Kyrie into the book. Even what they have for Communion leans heavily towards the horizontal.

I told our parochial vicar what had happened and he said that he would try to fix the situation. At least the youth minister was willing to improve holy hour. He is a good young man who actually wants to learn some of the chants, especially the Pangia Lingua. He is also willing to use something from United in Christ, which is not much, but, it’s a step better. I think that if we have some sort of structure, it may improve.
 
I found these readings more suited to Lent, but here is my list anyway.
