POST-LAYOUT CONTENTS

Easter:

Our Paschal Sacrifice / El Cordero Pascual
(Rubalcava)

Pentecost:
Come, O Holy Spirit, Come (DeBruyn)

Ordinary Time:
Qué Alegría / I Rejoiced (Cortez)

Not to crazy of “Come, Now is the Time to Worship” being added. Seems that it should be used for a youth concert, not the Mass.

Went to Mass this evening. This is what we sang:

Processional Hymn: #306 Let Us Go to the Altar
Preparation of the Gifts: #586 Your Words are Spirit and Life
Communion Hymn: #336 Jesus, the Bread of Life
Recessional Hymn: #576 Sing of the Lord’s Goodness

I do not like “Let Us Go to the Altar” or “Your Words are Spirit and Life” at all. Never knew why.

This is what I suggest for next weekend:

Sunday, July 4, 2010 - Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time - Year C

Processional Hymn: #654 God of Our Fathers NATIONAL HYMN
Preparation of the Gifts: #650 This is My Song FINLANDIA
Communion Hymn: #456 For the Healing ST. THOMAS
Recessional Hymn: #497 Let There Be Peace on Earth Jackson/Miller

Now that I think of it, “Jesus, the Bread of Life” by Grayson Warren Brown, which was used at Mass is kind of hard to sing if you cannot read music. I remember a few years back when I couldn’t read it that well, it was so difficult trying to sing it. Has anyone ever used this song before and had problems with it? I’m wondering if the congregation had the problem I had.

Are there any songs with Jewish flare out there…? I’ve always have a deep-seated love for Jewish music. (I’ve never told anyone this before)

Never heard if it. I’ll look into it though, as I’m always looking for something new, even if it is only for the choir.

This weekend:

Holy God We Praise They Name
Here I Am Lord
I am the Bread of Life
What Wondrous Love is This
City of God.

This is what the guitarist chose for this weekend’s Mass:

Entrance: Blest are They
Offertory: Be Not Afraid
Communion: Gift of Finest Wheat
Recessional: Hail Holy Queen Enthroned Above (badly strummed on the guitar)

This is what I will be using for a patronal feast on Tuesday:

Entrance: By All Your Saints Still Striving
Gloria: Richard Proulx - A Community Mass
Offertory: Todo Lo Que Tengo
Incensing of Altar: Tu es Petrus
Sanctus: Jubilate Deo
Memorial Acclamation: Salvator Mundi salvanos, qui per crucem et resurrectionem tuam liberatinos.
Great Amen: from Papal Mass
Agnus Dei: Jubilate Deo
Communion Antiphon: Tu es Christus, Filii Dei Vivi (if I can find it in time)
Meditation: Donde Hay Caridad y Amor
Recessional: For All the Saints

The Cathedral organist and I went over the selections and he was quite fine with all of them. 👍

We did exactly the same hymns at the same times except for communion we sang “You Are Mine”

I did not like it when I heard them this morning. Of course, I was cringing when the choir sang City of God. OCP is the root of all bad music.

I still don’t get why your guitarist is using Marian hymns for the recessional. I don’t see how it fits.

She is a very nice girl, but she knows zilch about what is appropriate for the Mass. There is a very bad custom down here about using Marian hymns as the recessional. I certainly did not plan any for tomorrow’s Mass.

Here is what our music leader chose for this weekend:

Entrance: All are welcome MI: 409
Offertory: The Summons MI: 377 (542) Or Like a child Rest MI: 481
Communion: Song of the body of Christ MI: 321 Or Come to me MI: 475
Closing: America the beautiful MI: 651

We Gather Together
America The Beautiful
O Sacrament Most Holy
What Woundrous Love is This
Now Thank We All Our God

So I was looking on OCP’s website and I saw that their 2011 Missal covers were revealed and was looking at the cover for the 2011 Breaking Bread. Can someone figure out what the cover is?

ocp.org/products/BB-P

You can click on it for a closer look. I’m thinking it’s a sun, but I’m not really sure.

I just received the latest catalog from OCP in the mail today and it features those covers in it. The cover that your speak of for the 2011 issue of breaking bread look like an abstraction of the sun but also looks like a gathering of people.

Just off the top of my head, I would guess it is a painting by Picasso made for the Illuminati of the Sun God Ra showing his blessing of the papists of Mystery Babylon. But then that could be the Chick in me flaring up or a left over nightmare from watching DaVinci Code too late.
