I agree with the situation with “Lift Up Your Heads, Ye Mighty Gates” and “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel.” “See How the Virgin Waits” has been a hymn we have sung as the recessional on the Fourth Sunday for a while. The verses kind of give the feel that Christmas is so close:
- See how the virgin waits for him, Mary in wonder waits for him.
Shake off your slumber, come all full of wonder, Jesus is coming as the Prince of Peace. Shake off your slumber, come all full of wonder, Jesus is coming as the Prince of Peace.
- Gently she hears the distant breeze, swaying the silver olive trees.
What is she thinking as the sun is sinking waiting the birthday of her first-born sun?
What is she thinking as the sun is sinking waiting the birthday of her first-born sun?
- Now a new patten on the loom, now a new presence in the room.
Waking or sleeping, all her loves she’s keeping, waiting the coming of the Son of God.
Waking or sleeping, all her loves she’s keeping, waiting the coming of the Son of God.
And with “Mary, Woman of the Promise”, it doesn’t really bother me, because it goes back and touches upon her “YES!” to the Angel Gabriel.
“The Whole World is Waiting for Love” is just a little contemporary Advent song.
- We’re waiting for Jesus like Mary, we’re waiting for Jesus the Lord.
Refrain: Come down Lord Jesus, come quickly Lord Jesus. The whole world is waiting for love! The whole world is waiting for love.
- We’re laying a manger for Mary, A manger for Jesus the Lord. (Refrain)
- We’re making it lovely for Mary, So lovely for Jesus the Lord. (Refrain)
