We usually do B. Farrell’s Mass of hope except for the Agnus Dei. We do the Latin Agnus Dei chant. The Latin is beautiful but rather sad. Most of the faithful don’t realize that they have just sung the Lamb of God and remain standing. So we usually kneel to indicate to them that it is time. What mass settings are you going to use for Lent as well and song choices.
At my church the favorite is Mass of the Angels and Saints which is just horrible in my opinion. Its adds words that shouldn’t be there.
I would like to introduce some chant to the only Mass that I will be assisting at (3 week in Lent). I thought that maybe I would do a Kyrie or the Agnus Dei. Also I was thinking about adding a Communion antiphon. We’ll see, I don’t want to send everyone into shock.
Love “Beyond the Days”
we usually fit “Two were bound for Emmaus” sometime during Lent as well as John Michael Talbot’s “Why” on Palm Sunday or during Stations and Veni Scanti Spiritus. And we have a beautiful Agnus Dei that we sing as a Communion Prelude. It’s not one that the people sing with us; it is by a 17th century composer who’s name escapes me. Beautiful 4 part.
We also do a sung Kyrie since there is no Gloria during Lent. And we speak the Lord’s Prayer.
Occasionally our Priests will request to process and recess in silence. I think that is very symbolic especially on the Palm Sunday recessional.
