I like it in moderation. That said, I rarely use it.
I don’t know, it sort of has the same baseline as “Gather Us In”. I guess it’s the tune that bothers me the most. It sounds kind of annoying.
The old Gather Comprehensive that I get to work with actually does have “A Hymn of Glory” as well as “Go Make of All Disciples”. “A Hymn of Glory” I will certainly be using; I don’t really care for “Go Make of All Disciples” though.
I used Go Make of All Disciples for the Chrism Mass, the Ascension and Pentecost. It’s a lot better than Go Out to the World in the United in Christ book.
I’m sorry, but that is just one of those songs that irk me.
I actually like that hymn, its common for our choir to sing it on Pentecost, and just looking back at what we’ve sung the past 3 Pentecosts, we’ve sung it for two of them.However, I hope the director at my church didn’t decide to use “One Spirit, One Church” for Pentecost Sunday.

I don’t care much for that hymn. What the composer did was take a perfectly beautiful hymn, Come, Holy Ghost, and slaughter it with a severe horizontal bent. It is one of those songs that I dread hearing. Hopefully, our new music director will not subject us to it again.
The offertory song is very problematic and it’s bad theologically. I just don’t understand why folks don’t use Alleluia, Sing to Jesus as the Communion hymn. It’s much more theologically sound than what was used for Communion.
Well, with the OCP version, it’s cut down to three verses and suggested as a processional hymn. The Communion verses of the hymn were cut out, basically.
Even without verse three, it still makes for a great Communion hymn. OCP really does not understand a lot of the theologically and liturgically sound music out there.
Some people do not like that song as well as others, perhaps? I use it only at Easter Vigil and Easter morning myself. I try to have “Alleluia” in very song on that day.

Speaking of Mass settings…has anyone looked into some of the revisions to current settings? I have a study copy with the refrain only of the Gloria for both Mass of Light and Mass of Creation, as well as the first two lines of the Holy Holy from both. Pulled them from GIA’s website.
It’s not merely a cringe, at least from my part. The parts of the Mass need to be faithful to the text. The music needs to conform with the official prayers of the Church, not the other way around. Furthermore, the whole issue of “Happy Birthday” is troublesome. Even though the Mass had already ended, when we start introducing secular elements, especially during such a great (but, largely unappreciated feast as the Ascension), it seems to downgrade things a bit. It’s as though we have lost sight of the great mystery that has just unfolded before our eyes.
