One particular pet peeve I have, as maybe a few of you have, is, I will
enjoy a song’s melody and lyrics overall, but then, there would be that one particular line or phrase in the song that just has me laughing, so we stay away from the song. All in fun, no disrespect to the songwriters.
Here are some examples-
Change Our Hearts by Rory Cooney
“One foot in paradise, one in the waste…”
Don’t like the choice word “waste” here, it just sounds so unpoetic
Gather The People by Dan Schutte
“Here we become what we eat”
Great, right after I had a huge piece of pizza and they want me to sing that?
Come to Me And Drink Bob Hurd
Just that first line reminds me of a pub in south Boston (can’t get past that line, lol), sorry
Fill My Cup, Lord Richard Blanchard
The title reminds me of a singer and great friend of mine in our group who has a flat chest and she always jokes that God didn’t give her anything to put in her cups so it’s all material and no substance! (therefore we always laugh about that song)
Look Beyond Darryl Ducotte
“Moses brought us manna from the sky”
Welp, all I can say is, how often is the word manna used in a sentence by anyone?
