Muslim friend first to send me a Christmas e-card

I am amazed at th thoughtfulness of my Muslim friend, who despite our religious differences, sent me a “Merry Christmas” e-card.

I feel blessed to have friends of different religions (Protestants, Muslims, Buddhists (though I don’t know any Jew—I know they are also good people), who look beyond what separates us–and still see a friend in me as I see a friend in them.

Being a Christian includes not picking and choosing which words of Jesus to follow. When He said to love your neighbor, He meant it! When He gave the final commision to spread the gospel, He meant it! He did not mean that we are only to spread the Gospel to those who already believe in Him. Muslims, Jews, hindus, atheists, are all “anti-Christ” in that they do not believe in the divinity of Christ. They need an introduction to Christ and who is it that is responsible for introducing Muslims to Christ?? WE ARE!! The OP is in the perfect position to spread the Gospel and you just shot her down.

You need to get a handle on your pride. You post is very condescending. I’m waiting for the day when I see Catholics, and Christians of all denominations, finally begin to defend themselves again against islam. When will we fight for ourselves and our faith? When is enough enough?

From your reply to me and Eugenia, i wonder are you habouring with deep haterous towards the Muslim, althought i can understand why. If everyone think the way you think , what is Christianity to you. Instead of asking me what it meas to be a Christian, you should ask yrself this question

Your profile mentioned that you are a Catholic, it does not mean you understand and know every single piece of your tradition/theology , fullness of the truth, that you can speak the way you think is correct , Earthly wisdom does not make you a Holy person. Thus i am more worry for you then me mixing around with the Muslim as i have Muslim brether sisters and brothers attending my church whom receive Jesus as their Savior. God’s doing is far more profound for any human to understand (that was being shared to me by a Priest) so by looking at your post i believe you never evangelize to the Muslim for you already imprinted in your heart that they are AntiChrist and hoping them to fall to in disgrace.

He welcomes all who accept Jesus as their Savior, regardless of everything else you listed. But beliefs would not be one of them. You cannot call yourself a muslim, deny Christ, and get into Heaven.

And my post above was not to say we should attack all muslims. It was to warn you that they are not your true friends as long as they are muslim. Their very belief system would prohibit that. It was also to point out that we should not just sit back and “love” them when they do attack. And yes, they do attack sometimes don’t they?

From what I can see, your belief system would prohibit your being true friends with a Muslim unless and until they converted to Christianity – after all, according to you they’re under diabolical influence until then, right? True friendship implies equality, and saying ‘you’re possessed by the devil but I love you anyway’ is far from an equal footing.

Not all – in fact, very few – Muslims are slavering lunatics howling at the gates of Western civilization and religion. That lot just get far more publicity than the vast majority, just like the skeletons in other religions’ collective closets get an annoyingly high amount of airtime.

It was also to point out that we should not just sit back and “love” them when they do attack.

As I recall, Jesus did say to love your enemies as well.

And yes, they do attack sometimes don’t they?

I can’t believe you said that. They didn’t cast any stones alright. How about thousands of bombs, bullets, and a couple of airliners? So I guess fighting back is a sin? I guess defending myself is a sin?

I love all of God’s creatures. It doesn’t mean I have to like them. It doesn’t mean that I have to let them kill me.

And comparing people before Christ was born doesn’t really work either. The had the old Testament to follow. With Jesus, came new laws. Read the OT without considering the NT and tell me that a Hindu or muslim or Budhist would be saved prior to the birth of Christ.

And finally, you are right on one point. I can love a fellow creature of God that is a muslim. But I will not really ever be friends with him. I can try to giude him to the Church, and I do. But if they deny Christ despite all efforts, they are not a friend. I don’t really have any Athiest friends either. I’m sure many of my co-workers are various religions. But true friends? All Christian (mostly Catholic).

You don’t have to like my opinion on these matters, but I’ll not be told who I can be friends with.

I do that all the time.

Man’s singularity is derived from the breath “He [God] breathed into his nostrils at the moment of creation” (Genesis 2:7). Thus, we do share in the universal historical experience, and God’s providential concern does embrace all of humanity.”

We have always acknowledged that God made covenants with other people as well. The Jewish Bible explicitly speaks of God’s covenants with other people too --the Assyrians and the Egyptians to name just two.
