Hello everybody,
I am literally in tears as I am writing this post. I have finally decided to have the courage to come out at least to the internet.
I was born and raised a strict, fundamentalist Muslim in a Muslim country in the Middle East. I was a first and practising Muslim for the whole 20 years of my life. Even as a Muslim, I had always been curious about the Virgin Mary. She is the ONLY woman who is mentioned by name in the Quran. In fact, her name is mentioned over 30 times in the Quran - even more than the New Testament. She has a whole chapter named after her (Surah Maryam) and I had always been fascinated by her as Islam is an extremely male-dominated and patriarchal religion. I had grown up believing that Maryam (as Muslims call her) is the most honoured and pious woman in the whole world and a perfect example of what a woman should be as she submitted her entire will and life to Allah. I was always fascinated by Prophet Isa (Jesus) as we were always taught that he will come back and reign the Earth during the Millennium. The ONLY prophet in the legions of thousands of prophets who would actually come back on Earth and be a King.
Fast forward - I went to a Western country to go to college and got introduced to the LDS Church through a pair of missionaries. I had NO idea that they were a complete different and distinct group of Christianity. Having no knowledge of Christianity myself, I had no idea that Christianity is divided into thousands of sects with literally mutually exclusive beliefs.
I read the Book of Mormon and loved the words of Jesus Christ when He came to the Americas and loved how Mary was described as the fairest of all virgins. I prayed about it and felt a warm fuzzy feeling and converted to the LDS Church and soon after migrated to the USA. However, I was still in a lot of shock and surprise as Mary wasn’t mentioned much in the Book of Mormon and the New Testament but I knew that my Lord Jesus Christ was my Saviour.
I experienced a crisis of faith in the USA as I felt that the Mormons wasn’t putting much or any emphasis on Christ, His Disciples or the Holy Mother. Every sacrament meeting, general conference or fireside focused on ‘following the Prophet’, ‘Joseph Smith is a true Prophet’ and the ‘Book of Mormon is true’. I wanted to read Christ’s own words as they weren’t found in the Book of Mormon so I began to read the New Testament for the first time and WOW - what a shock it was.
I was able to experience the book that changed the world and soak into my Saviour’s life and teachings and what His apostles taught and did. I was able to learn that there is One God (John 1:1) and there is no need for temples and most of all - my Blessed Holy Mother was a virgin and did NOT HAVE SEX WITH HEAVENLY FATHER.
I started to say my Hail Marys and everytime I did, I felt the most wondrous peace in my soul. It felt as my beloved Mother was right there next to me, comforting me through the spiritual angst. I was able to research on Christianity’s history and found out Christ’s church never died and there was no Great Apostasy and it truly was the Church that Christ started.
I have never spoken to ANY Catholic or been inside any Catholic Church. But I am truly come to the conclusion that it is the right path to my Saviour. I want to be a Catholic Christian, ask my Holy Mother to pray for me and worship my Saviour without any suspicion or persecution.
I attend a Mormon university and I would be expelled if they found out I am considering Catholicism. If I am expelled I would be sent home to the Middle East where I could be executed for apostasy.
Please, I am freaking out and don’t know who to ask for help or what to do. Is there any hope for me?
