What is the Muslim view of the Ascension of Jesus into Heaven as to when do they believe it took place?

I think I have read that some Muslims believe that Jesus endured His trial and the Way of the Cross, but after He was put on the cross God rescued Him and at that time He ascended into Heaven. If this is correct, do they necessarily then disbelieve all of the Bible accounts, not only of the Ascension of Jesus which took place after the Resurrection and in the presence of His 11 Apostles, but also all of the other accounts of Jesus’ appearance to those after His Resurrection (i.e. Jesus’ appearance to Doubting Thomas etc.?) And if this is the case, do they believe all of these people were mistaken and/or lying? If this is not the correct Muslim view, please explain the correct view and timeline.

Thank you. 🙂

(Please note that I am looking for the traditional Muslim view, not the other one that says Jesus went to India and lived to be 120 years old and is buried there.)

By denying that Jesus actually died on the cross, the followers of a religion started by a pedophile do NOT have to deal with His Resurrection.

A dead man requires only that you bury him.

A man who just disappears needs nothing.

A man Who rises from the dead by His own power is in a position to make non-negotiable demands.

We Muslims have no hesitation in acknowledging that in the Bible, there are three different kinds of witnessing recognizable without any need of specialized training. These are:
  1. You will be able to recognize in the Bible what may be described as “The Word of God.”
  2. You will also be able to discern what can be described as the “Words of a Prophet of God.”
  3. And you will most readily observe that the bulk of the Bible is the records of eye witnessess or ear witnesses, or people writing from hearsay. As such they are the “Words of a Historian”
that’s why we believe that the bible not entirly correct and nor entirly lies , things are not always either BLACK or WHITE. Between these two extremes there are various shades of GREY.

anyway , as for your question about the Muslim view of the Ascension of Jesus into Heaven and when do we believe it took place
well , all what we know from quran and from sunnah that jesus (pbuh) ascended to the God and not be killed nor crucified atall , He wasn’t even put on the cross atall

the details of the story not mentioned but some muslims concludes it from the records of the bible , that’s all

Can you stop talking like that? If a muslim insulted a christian like that in this website he would’ve been banned however if a christian wants to do the same thing-nothing happens. These double-standards are amazing!

Islam has its own understanding of Jesus’ Mysteries, but that’s to be expected: it is a different religion. Each religion has its own theology. But truth isn’t plural or subjective.

No offense meant.

wassup with the twilight zone theme song?

It’s a joke. The Twilight Zone is about alternative worlds and weird things that go on. The belief that Jesus went to India is weird.

As to the part that I have bolded and underlined:
So Muslims do NOT believe in the Passion of Jesus (or most of it). At what point did God “rescue” Jesus? I think Muslims believe in the Agony in the Garden (mainly because they point to that as proof that they should prostrate themselves in prayer). Is it at that point that God “rescues” Him and replaces Him with someone else, or later (i.e. just before He is nailed to the cross)?

Are all of the accounts in the Bible following the Crucifixion and Resurrection of Jesus considered false or fabricated then?

Not really. If Jesus came for the children of Israel, then India would have been a possible destination:
The first mention of Jews in connection with India occurs in the Bible itself. In the book of Esther, which probably dates from the second century B.C.E., mention is made of decrees of the Persian monarch Xerxes (Ahasuerus in the Bible) relating to the Jews being dispersed throughout the 127 provinces of his empire, stretching from India even upto Ethiopia. It is known that at its height the Persian Empire extended well into Baluchistan, then geographically regarded as part of India and now partly in Pakistan and Iran. It is quite likely that there were Jews settled in the area named ‘India’ in the Book of Esther…
The Beni Israel and the Cochini Jews are two Jewish groups in India, dating back 2000 years or more. Most likely, there were Jews in India (due to trade, at least) during Jesus’ time, and thus Jesus conceivably may have gone to India (to preach to the Jews there, perhaps).

As to the part that I have bolded and underlined:

it’s very good question
well , as i said to you , the details of this event isn’t mentioned in quran , but we use the records of the bible to conclude some details

what the Qur’an says about Jesus’ crucifixion:

“And they (the Jews)said (in boast),‘We killed Christ Jesus the son of Mary, the Apostle of Allah’; but they killed him not, nor crucified him, but so it was made to appear to them, and those who differ therein are full of doubts with no certain knowledge, but only conjecture to follow. For of a surety they killed him not.” Qur’an 4:157

This verse represents the Muslims point of view as regards the alleged crucifixion of Jesus; he was neither killed nor crucified. But when this verse is read to Christians, they refuse to believe as they say that the Qur’an is not the word of God, but the work of Muhammad.
The Muslim is therefore forced to refer to their book, the Bible, to prove that this supposed idea of the crucifixion of Jesus is fallacy.
truth can never be hidden for long, and if one tries to attribute things to what God actually said, falsehood appears in the form of contradictions.

so , if you wanna to discuss the details from our point of view , then you have to know that we have not but the records of the bible to proof our view . as for the details not exist in quran itself
Are all of the accounts in the Bible following the Crucifixion and Resurrection of Jesus considered false or fabricated then?
who knows ? we can discuss the bible as you want and try to find answers for ourselfs if you like 🙂

but i myself don’t believe that all the accounts are fabricated nor that all of them are the truth , ijust say that some of them may altered or corrupted and others may mistranslated or misunderstooded and others are pure truth and others are fabricated

It is interesting to know that it is a fact that Islam came hundreds of years after the acsension of Jesus Christ and hundreds of years after Islam’s false claim of him living in India for 90 plus years. 🤷

one member here,Koranist…I think he believes in the literal death of Jesus on the cross as recorded in the Gospels…yet…he is still a muslim

Islam doesn’t teach that.
The Islamic Ahmadi muslims believe Christ lived to be 120 years old, lived and died in India and is buried there.

We have at least one Ahmadi member on CAF and he believes in it and he follows islam.

Sorry OP - you didn’t want to regurgitate the Christ in India story, but I was answering SadesDomi.

Yes, Ahmadiyya teaches that, but Ahmadiyya isn’t orthodox Islam.

Saying that Islam teaches Jesus went to India, because Ahmadiyya teaches that; would be like claiming Christianity teaches Jesus went to Mexico, because the LDS teaches that. The Mormons aren’t considered orthodox Christians.

even if ahmadi believes they are muslims , it will still islam dosn’t teach that

ask ahmadi to give you verse from quran or words from the prophet of islam which back up thier view , they will give you nothing , so that i agree that islam never teached that

may be some humans whom consider themselfs muslims teaching that , but not islam itself 🙂

Indeed again! But you sunni have the same problem with shia as well. We once asked on here “what is the Real Islam” and if I remember correctly - The “real islam” does not exist.

OPS - sorry OP - OT 😊 Somehow we all manage to get threads to OT. :o

That’s OK. It’s always interesting! 🙂

I’m just thoroughly confused - perhaps elwill can clarify his responses. Here’s what I am grasping from them (along with my confusion):

Muslims do not believe in the crucifixion, but believe in the Passion of Christ up to some point (what point ???). They believe He ascended alive into Heaven, but I still don’t understand at what point. ??? If elwill is correct, and they then defer to the Bible since the details are not in the Quran, then they would believe that Jesus appeared to disciples after His “non-crucifixion”, but then didn’t tell his disciples that he wasn’t crucified. ??? And, according to Muslim view, He was never put on the cross, but somehow had the nail marks in His hands and the wound in His side which Thomas verified. ??? Or do Muslims believe Thomas and the rest of the apostles were lying about these accounts - these are part of the “corrupted” Bible???

As a corollary question, do Muslims believe that Jesus can hear us? They do not believe the dead can hear us, but Jesus ascended into Heaven while He was alive - so can He hear us then?
