I understand men are permitted to have more than one wife in this life, while women are allowed to have only one husband. The reason behind this is because the woman can identify who the father of their children are.

My question is since woman do not give birth to children in janah why are they still only allowed to have one husband while the men have multiple women?

In the correct reading of the Arabic Qur’an, the number ‘72’ is nowhere there in the Book. The equivalent word for ‘so called Virgins’ in the Arabic means ‘companions’ and it is in neutral gender. The word in question is ‘Hur’. The word ‘Hur’ is a plural for the word ‘Ahwaar’ applicable to denote a man or ‘Hawar’ applicable to denote a woman. Meaning thereby, that both men and the women shall get plenty of good friends and perfect companions (Hur) in Paradise. Male chauvinistic translators or interpreters may have read ‘companions’ as ‘female companions’ and ‘good female companions’ as the ‘virgins’. It is the mindset of some readers that can be objected to and not the Book.

Thanks for your reply. I’m guessing you’re a Shia Muslim?

This is the first time I’ve heard that kind of explanation. Are you able to present a tafsir or hadith (that is if you’re not a Shia) to support your claim?

Hi there & welcome to CAF ~

Looking forward to your posts.

I’m neither a Shi’a or a Sunni. God forbade schism in faith. He has decreed, “And hold fast to the Rope of Allah, and be not divided among yourselves” 3:103.

Anyways, back to the question now: I used the Tafsir of Ibn Kathir.

Ibn Kathir says that the houri “are delightful virgins of comparable age who never had sexual intercourse with anyone, whether from mankind or Jinns, before their spouses.” by commenting, “in the other life, after they became old in this life, they were brought back while virgin, youthful, being delightfully passionate with their partners, beautiful, kind and cheerful.”

Ibn Kathir mentions Muhammad saying that there will also be sexual intercourse between a husband and his wife in paradise.

Certainly you don’t deny that the Qur’an speaks of sex in Heaven though?

Qur’an 78:31-33 Indeed, for the righteous is attainment - Gardens and grapevines And full-breasted [companions] of equal age.

Mishkat al-Masabih Book IV, Chapter XLII, Paradise and Hell, Hadith Number 24The Holy Prophet said: 'The believer will be given such and such strength in Paradise for sexual intercourse. It was questioned: O prophet of Allah! can he do that? He said: "He will be given the strength of one hundred persons.

I believe I was clear enough. Yes, there will be sex in Heaven. Sex between one and his/her companion/spouse.

I’m sorry if I’m misunderstanding you, are you saying one will only have sex with his wife while in Heaven?

Qur’an 4454 So; and We shall join them to companions with beautiful big and lustrous eyes.

56 In them (Paradise) will be (maidens) chaste restraining their glances whom no man or Jinn before them has touched

Qur’an 5635 We have created (their Companions) of special creation.
36 And made them virgin-pure (and undefiled)
37 Beloved (by nature) equal in age

My apologies for the misunderstanding then, hahah. Okay wait, hmm… lemme try to summarize it in one go. Basically, in Heaven, each person shall have mansions and castles equivalent to the good deeds he or she has earned in the Duniya (mortal world); gardens; rivers of honey, water and wine; virgin mates with lustrous eyes (the Hur); their own friends and family (given that they made it to Heaven as well: if not then God shall replace them with better companions); their spouses (also, if they made it to Heaven: if not, then God shall replace them with better companions) and these are but some merely limited things that one shall have at his/her service. There will be more. In fact, one can have his/her personal heaven appear as to whatever he/she likes. And yes, the person in question can engage in sexual intercourse with his/her spouses and the virgin mates assigned to him/her.

Ah, okay. Thank you for your reply, it’s much appreciated.

Would you prefer a Heaven where one has all their lusts and desires fulfilled, or a Heaven where one spends an eternity worshiping God? The Bible only speaks of a place where we are made new and are living with God in eternal happiness praising Him.

Do you have any reason that none of the Prophets prior to Muhammad talked about sexual pleasures in Heaven but rather Jesus states: “At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven.” Matthew 22:30

If I’ve understood you correctly you’re implying women will have multiple mates just as the men do. Is that correct?

Well, in Islam, the concept is that we must spend our lives here in the Duniya worshiping God and in return, in Heaven, we’ll have all our desires fulfilled AND we will be in the company of God, His Angels, His Prophets and their Disciples. 🙂

Fair enough.

Do you have any reason why this idea of sex and rivers flowing of wine without getting drunk, and having all your wishes granted is not evident throughout any Jewish or Christian Scriptures, but rather says the opposite?

What do you think of Jesus’s claim that says the opposite?

And in Islam, lust and sex is treated as hunger and food. If we’re hungry, we must consume food BUT the food must be lawful, that is Halal. We cannot have food that has been slaughtered for pagan gods, Hindu idols, flesh of the swine or alcohol. Similarly, to fulfill our desires of sexual intercourse we cannot engage in fornication and adultery. We must perform sex lawfully with our spouses in wedlock. There are also other limitations put upon us in the subject of sex. Such as, no sodomy, no masochism, etc. Sex must be the representation of one’s love for his/her partner and consolidation of their bond in marriage. That is the way Allah has made lawful (Halal) for us. And in Heaven, one shall not have the excess desires of lust, greed, envy, pride or gluttony so sexual intercourse there will be pure and lovely.

whom no man or Jinn before them has touched
I’m curious what is a "*** Jinn*** "? I ask because I am a huge “Supernatural” fan (T.V. show)

In the show Jinns are Genies. Is this correct?

The show is notorious for taking things and saying they are something the belief never said they were. For instance in the show Humans go either to heaven or hell but Monsters go to Purgatory when they die.

That’s very interesting, I didn’t know that either. Can you answer my previous question please? Also, do you have any scripture to back up your statement here?
