As for Verse 9:29, please read the explanation here:
prophetrejectors.wordpress.com/929-at-tauba-of-quran-doesnt-encourage-muslims-to-terrorism/
And the Verses which are supposedly criticizing those who do not fight in the Cause of God were actually sent when the pagans of Mecca attacked Medina a second time and a group of so-called Muslims who originally intended to go to war and convinced everyone that they will back up the followers of Islam through and through but then on the day they were to leave for battle this group of hypocrites refused to go to war and abandoned the followers claiming it was too hot. This resulted in heavy casualties among the followers because they weren’t ready for this sudden decrease in their numbers. The Verses are 9:81-84 I believe. Lemme explain to you these Verses one by one:
9:81 Those who remained behind rejoiced in their staying [at home] after [the departure of] the Messenger of God and disliked to strive with their wealth and their lives in the cause of God and said, 'Do not go forth in the heat." Say, “The fire of Hell is more intensive in heat” - if they would but understand.
I believe I already explained this above. See, the Verse says, “those who REMAINED behind” meaning the story is in past tense. And what did these people do afterwards? They “rejoiced in their staying [at home]” and they even laughed when they heard of the heavy casualties saying, ‘didn’t we tell you not to go to war today?’. In response, God said,
9:82 So let them laugh a little and [then] weep much [in Hell] as recompense for what they used to earn.
And God warned Muhammad not to let it happen again by allowing such hypocrites to join them in war if they were to fight again,
9:83 If God should return you to a faction of them [after the expedition] and then they ask your permission to go out [to battle], say, “You will not go out with me, ever, and you will never fight with me an enemy. Indeed, you were satisfied with sitting [at home] the first time, so sit [now] with those who stay behind.”
And if these hypocrites died, the very hypocrites who were responsible for the death of so many followers, for then God commanded Muhammad,
9:84 And do not pray [the funeral prayer, O Muhammad], over any of them who has died - ever - or stand at his grave. Indeed, they disbelieved in Allah and His Messenger and died while they were defiantly disobedient.
And these hypocrites were extremely rich and prosperous when alive but they never gave Zakat, so God spoke of them,
9:85 And let not their wealth and their children impress you. God only intends to punish them through them in this world and that their souls should depart [at death] while they are disbelievers.
9:86 And when a chapter was revealed [enjoining them] to believe in God and to fight with His Messenger, those of wealth among them asked your permission [to stay back] and said, “Leave us to be with them who sit [at home].”
9:87 They were satisfied to be with those who stay behind, and their hearts were sealed over, so they do not understand.
As you can see, this entire story is in past tense and warns us that if our children, families, friends, or even our nation or people of our religion are being threatened and we are directly being attacked then we should fight back to protect our rites but at the same time we should be careful of hypocrites amid ourselves and if they are more successful than us and if they laugh at our sufferings when we’re at war then we are told to remember that fighting in the Cause of God shall grant us Paradise while they, the hypocrites, shall go to Hell when they die. Their wealth and success is only a temporary source of pleasure.
