Since the late John Paul 11 kissed the Quran ,What Does it signify to islam, does it mean to you that he converted secretly ,and that he cannonized your scripture as true, and catholic christians can accept it now as part of their cannon…and according to islamic belief…
Did the Late Pope John Paul 11 receive islamic heaven and all it has to offer by this action as a reward…

This has been on my mind For quite a long time, hope some muslims here can answer this for me…

well seeing some muslim recently killed a kafir for accidentaly for accidentaly touching a koran in Nigeria i dont think they would be happy about it. The pope should be excommunicated for kissing the Koran lol :tsktsk

Kissing the Qur’an was a nice gesture… but if it was a question of receiving “Islamic Heaven”, then I think that he, along with the rest of Christendom, would have been much better off if he had just faithfully adhered to the ‘Ten Commandments’ as clearly written in his own Bible.

And I do not believe that he followed the Commandments (in particular the Second Commandment) very well.

4 You shall not make for yourself an idol, whether in the form of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, punishing children for the iniquity of parents, to the third and the fourth generation of those who reject me,
… Exodus 20:4&5

"Ye shall make you no idols nor graven image, neither rear you up a standing image, neither shall ye set up any image of stone in your land, to bow down unto it: for I am the LORD your God." … Leviticus 26:1

BTW, since we believe in monotheism, then there really is no such place called “Islamic Heaven” in the Hereafter because there would be only one Paradise and only one Hell to be inhabited, although not proportionately, by both Muslims and non-Muslims alike.

Who said anything about worshipping statues?

Muslims are instead saying that Christians make and bow down to statues and graven images.

Are we wrong about this?

Is there a Commandment which prohibits the believer from touching or even kissing a house of worship like a temple or church??
No, God never made a commandment about ‘kissing a temple or church’. But then again we dont bow down to the church or temple and worship it now do we?

Hi there. 🙂

First of all, it doesn’t really signify anything to Islam. It doesn’t mean that the Pope converted, or that he canonized the Qur’an. For sure, Muslims do not need the approval of another faith for their scripture–and in fact it would actually insult the nobility of the Qur’an if it were “canonized” as Christian scripture. It certainly doesn’t suggest to Muslims at all that Christians either accept the Qur’an as truth or scripture for them.

It was simply a very nice gesture to demonstrate to Catholics and to Muslims a kind of tolerance. You might not know this, but Muslims in general treat the Bible with respect just like they do with the Qur’an. In fact, it is even strange to me since I don’t even see the Bible that way, but for example–they would put the Bible on the highest shelf, and would not put anything (except for another Bible or a Qur’an) on top of it. They wouldn’t put it under their chair, take it in to the bathroom, or anything like that. Even though they don’t consider it the same way they do the Qur’an, they still respect it.

And Muslims often do kiss the Qur’an just as an etiquette for them. I don’t do it personally but I do try to handle my mushaf (Arabic Qur’an) with care. I try more to respect it by following the teachings inside it. So I think the Pope kissing it is just a nice gesture, and nothing more.

Did he get Paradise for doing that? I’m not sure why anyone would ever suggest that, there is no teaching in Islam that just kissing the Qur’an forgives sins or anything like that… but surely, God Almighty only knows who will enter the Garden, and who will enter the Fire.

You are not considered idolatrous because you revere or kiss a temple, but because you revere and kiss a specific stone on the outer wall of that temple.

Reported in Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim:

Umar came near the Black Stone and kissed it and said “NO DOUBT, I KNOW THAT YOU ARE A STONE AND CAN NEITHER BENEFIT ANYONE NOR HARM ANYONE. Had I not seen Allah’s Apostle kissing you I would not have kissed you.”

This means Muslims have become idolatrous solely because they have followed their prophet to this day.

He talked to the stone? Is this not idolatry?

LOL

This hadith is actually reported by a number of witnesses. I think it’s kind of obvious he was speaking for them to hear him, and not actually talking to a stone like it can hear him. I talk to my car sometimes, and my computer, and my phone… lol…

Do you kiss and revere your car, computer, and phone because you consider them holy and because Mohammad did so? 😃

Right right, fair enough, just wanted to check, sorry if I made it sound accusatory.
