Muslims, same or different God

I will tell my oldest you did not like his analogy! The mind is 14 but quite brilliant. I do see how it can be taken that way. It is a picture of an absurd religion that claims to be the God of Abraham. We have to evaluate the claims based upon Truth. In this house, poo, pee, farts and burps are the norm just so you know.
You call teen boys “pooing” in circles quite brilliant? My son graduated from a Catholic high school - all boys. I know for a fact that no teacher at that school, and certainly not the priest, would accept that analogy in a paper, much less call it quite brilliant.

I do not believe that Muslims worship the same God as Christians do. My objections to CCC 841 are well known at this point (I think you participated in the thread I started about it if I remember correctly, kalt), so I’m not going to rehash it. It is sufficient to say that I do not recognize a God who cannot beget, who cannot incarnate, who cannot resurrect as any kind of God that I worship. Questions of the Jews I think are pretty well dealt with by the sort of distinction Nine_Two has made (which I wish I had made in my thread!), while Muslims have done something far more insidious by trying to repackage the God of Abraham as the God of Muhammad, giving Him a specific set of “disallowed” (for lack of a better term) characteristics as well as false attributes (God leads astray those he wills and all that…I don’t remember the exact wording; God is the “greatest of deceivers”, etc.) that are not common to Jewish OR Christian understandings of God, but are something else altogether.
I agree that Islam has many, many things wrong. I also know that the Baptists, Methodists, and Lutherans, to one degree or another, have things wrong. Still, they worship the same God.

DB banter is not equal to a formal paper, this we agree. No, I thought it was funny. I am glad your son has his diploma. That is absolutely wonderful. But I think DS is funny. If I offended anyone, get over it. No, I mean I am sorry!! He was helping me since home health care is wimpy about two feet of snow. But he is a good boy. Despite the fact that he still remembers my rants against Christians, he is making the adjustment.

Such uncouth expression is not acceptable to me sir, and I do not appreciate it,have respect,:tsktsk:Carlan
I am not couth. Nor do I ever aspire to be. But I will do better. Thank you.

LOL Ask any Jew if Jesus is the Son of God, the Messiah. 😃

Jews are waiting for the messiah. They don’t believe that Jesus is the one.
I would rather speak to a kid than continue this conversation with one who does not even know from where he/she has fallen.

Hello Mosacked, I don’t understand:confused: It really is o,k. to stand corrected. We all make mistakes about things:( Peace, Carlan

I fall back on this all the time.

The angel Gabriel through the annunciation told Mary that she would have the Son of God. The Great I Am. 600 years later the supposed angel Gabriel told mohammad that Jesus is NOT God. For me the answer is simple. Muslims have been duped by Satan and therefore cannot be worshiping the same God. As a matter of fact…muslims do not worship God. Sorry…it just seems so clear to me.

As far as the Jews…they worship the Father…but with less knowledge of than Christians. They don’t understand.

The CC affirms that Muslims worship the same god that Jews and Christians worship.
Do you agree with this?
Do Muslims believe Jesus is God robed in flesh?
See Mt.1:23 🙂

kalt,
Shall we list the simularities? 🙂
They are all christians and believe God sent His One and Only son to die for sinners.
What are the ‘wrong’ things ?

To believe this, though, you have to believe that someone was actually speaking to Muhammed - Gabriel or a demon, or whoever. It’s interesting that people (many people) who think Muhammed is an unreliable source, accept that he is telling the truth when he says he recieved some kind of message. They beleive that message was from an evil spirit or the devil, but they actually believe that he recieved a message. And why? Because Muhammed said he did. That’s really strange to me. Why would anyone who doesn’t trust anything else Muhammed claimed, believe that one thing?

There are many differences between the Christian churches. Some say that God tells us we know we’re saved. Others say that God judges us at our death and that God hasn’t told us that we are OSAS. Just one of the differences in what we believe about God.

And of course the differences between Christian beliefs and Jewish beliefs are bigger. We believe in a triune god, and of course the Jews don’t. They don’t believe that Jesus is God.

People accept the differences is belief between Christians and between Christians and Jews and acknowledge that we worship the same God. It’s only with the Muslims that they draw the line. But it’s really not a valid line.

That’s actually a good point. I guess you could make the case then that mohammad mislead his people into believing that Jesus is not God. I’m not sure why he would do that…but your point is certainly possible. If that’s the case…then one could argue that muslims worship the same God…but very imperfectly.

Maybe you can convince some innocent kid that Jews believe that Jesus is God. 😉

Are you saying that Baptists and Catholics don’t worship the same god?
Do you disagree with the CC?
Catholics and Baptists do worship the same God. We both believe in the Trinity. 🙂

I think that’s what it is. Some say that Muhammed thought that the Trinity was 3 separate gods, one of them being Mary. If that’s what he was taught, or what he “mislearned” (I’ve taught and know how students don’t always absorb the info accurately.), it would be no wonder that he would call Christianity (as he understood it) wrong. He could have had social/political motives instead. I don’t know. At any rate, Islam claims to have corrected errors that crept into the faith(s) through the centuries. A common claim is that though the OT and NT are filled with contradictions, the Koran is straightforward and doens’t contradict itself. It’s seen as a corrected worship of the same god. They say they worship the God of Abraham, just thinking that they’ve corrected errors, so there’s really no reason to say that they’ve created a new god. That accusation could be made about the Christians, too, because while Christians see evidence in the OT that Jesus is God, the Jews, who wrote the scripture, don’t. Christians read the OT differently than Jews do.

I think that many Christians hate Islam and can’t imagine that they worship the same god. Islamist (fanatic Islam) terrorism isn’t Islam as fanatic Christianity isn’t Christianity.

Many Christians fear the spread of Islam. I don’t fear the spread of Islam - God said that nothing will destroy His Church–but I do fear the acts of the Islamists. Now this is going to degenerate into a political ending, so I’ll stop before I step too hard on dem. toes. 🙂
