this is just sad. let’s pray for our Palestinian Christian brethrens now suffering from the hands of misguided muslims.

JERUSALEM – Palestinian Christians in a normally quiet village are reeling from a series of grave desecrations this week that they say are indicative of intimidation tactics from the town’s growing Muslim population.

:dts:No matter how some might try to show Islam as a peaceful religion we hear such incidents every now and then, now I understand their objection to alcohol and improper dressing of women BUT smashing crosses is not acceptable at all.

In another news article:
Palestinian Authority Muslims went on a rampage Sunday and desecrated 70 Christian graves two weeks after the pope praised efforts for a new PA state and tried to appease Muslim anger over previous disputes between the two religions.
The vandals smashed gravestones and knocked metal and stone crosses off graves in the village of Jiffna, near Ramallah, home to approximately 900 Christians and 700 Muslims. Greek Orthodox Church official George Abdo told Reuters** the head and hand of a statue of Madonna also was severed. ** 😦

Yes, but we need to remember that such actions are by rogues and not honest believers. France has had a problem with Christians desecrating Muslim graves, but the actions of those rogue Christians do not reflect poorly on Christianity.

Where is your proof that it was* Christians* who vandalized those graves? From what I’ve been able to find out, it was neo-nazis who did it.

They severed the hand and head of a statue of the Madonna? That’s very strange. Islam traditionally holds Mary in very high regard.

True - but it’s the Mary in the koran they hold in high regards, Isa’s/Jesus mother.

It’s the “statue” of Mother Mary they have a problem with. That’s why they calls us “idol” worshipers. Statues, icons, the Cross… etc…

Ah, yes - that would make sense. Although wasn’t a statue of the Madonna and Child the only “idol” in the Kaaba that Muhammad didn’t destroy when he took over Mecca? He just cleansed it and blessed it. I don’t remember where I read that, though. And you’re right, they definitely don’t honor Mary in the sense that we do.

Hear, hear! Their objections are one thing, but these actions are absolutely terrible. Nothing justifies them.

Orthodox and Eastern Catholic women also veil themselves, so what exactly is improper about Christian dress, in this case?

About the alcohol…we know that there are differences in the positions of the two religions regarding this, but I don’t think the Muslims understand (or care to understand) the Christian position. Instead they just want to force a Muslim understanding on a non-Muslim people. That is unacceptable to me, as a Christian and as a fellow human being. Do I or any other Christian have the right to desecrate a Muslim mosque or grave because they do not recognize Jesus as the Son of God? No, of course not! And by that same token, they do not have the right to intimidate the Christian community or desecrate its places, just because we Christians will not accept Islam and its ways.

Of course, it happens anyway because of the small numbers and vulnerable position of te community. May God protect all Christians in the birthplace of Christ. It seems that the situation under the new, democratically-elected Palestinian Authority is not good for them. This is not a free Palestine, it is merely exchanging one brutal occupation for another.

Is this really the kind of state that so many Christian and Muslim martyrs have fought together for in non-religious groups like Fat’ah, PFLP, etc.? Did not the Christians also give their lives for their homeland? Don’t they still do so today? Shame on the Muslims who would turn around and devour their brothers once they feel themselves sufficiently in control of the territory! That is sick.

my turn 😊

well , all of you disagree with such behaviours

i agree with all of you , it’s not islamic behaviours

Once the Prophet was seated at some place in Madinah, along with his Companions. During this time a funeral procession passed by. On seeing this, the Prophet stood up. One of his Companion remarked that the funeral was that of a Jew. The Prophet replied, “Was he not a human being?”

Just as the Prophet did, we, too, must look at all men as human beings who deserve to be respected at all events.

Where is there evidence that Muslims desecrated the Christian graves? In both cases we are assuming inter-religious hostility.

The article states it was Palestinian Muslims. If you don’t like it, take the issue up with the writers!

From now on, I will ignore your posts since obviously your only replies are “tu quoques”

I don’t think they have any problem with Christians women regarding that, the problem that most Muslims see any clothing above the knee repulsive regardless if that woman was a Christian or even a Muslim.

I think the Muslims in that territories are afraid of alcohol because it leads to drunkenness, and that is why they don’t want to see people drinking in the streets (because it wouldn’t be safe for their families), but I don’t think it matters with them if people drink inside their homes.
I’m personally against pubs in the streets, I think if someone want to consume alcohol, then he/she should do that inside their homes so if they got drunk they wouldn’t harm others.

That is very nice, but aren’t the neo-nazis also Christian? I guess I didn’t explain my point very well: the desecrations were committed by extremists, not by mainstream believers. You will find extremists in all religions, all political ideologies, all philosophies.

The problem is not with Islam, but with extremism.

Well in that case there sure are an awful lot of those extremists out there. Extremists attacked the Abu Fana monastery, extremists killed Mehdi Debaj, Father Ragheed Ghanni and Archbishop Paulos Rahho, extremists burned down dozens of churches in riots in Nigeria, and in Kenya, and killed converts to Christianity among the Somalis working as aid workers in camps in Kenya or in Somalia proper, etc. etc.

Really…are we supposed to believe that extremism just happens to follow Islam around? Like this is all just one giant coincidence, no matter how often the people doing it tell us that they are doing it in the name of Islam/the prophet Muhammad/Allah? Maybe, just maybe they’re telling us the truth about their religion and we’re just too sacred to deal with it, even though the eastern Christian world has been dealing with it since the very beginning of Islam.

This is not so much the case with this particular story, as we have no such direct statements from people involved in the grave desecrations. I’m just fascinated by this “Islam is a peaceful religion that has been hijacked by extremists” argument. And by “fascinated with”, I mean I think you’re full of bologna.

It’s hard to see that coming from a person who I thought made a great explanation to the other topic (honor killing)…

this act is unthinkable to any good practicing muslim…the perpetrators acted out of anger and frustration and has nothing to do with Islam…

you mentioned extremists killing Christians, but what you didn’t mention is that these extremists have killed more fellow Muslims than any other people…they even bomb Mosques in Iraq and Afghanistan,

If a survey was conducted in that area, 99% would condemn this act…but that as usaual doesn’t make news

dzheremi, Yes we have problems with extremists , but stop putting us with them as one group you call “muslims”…stop generalizing…
