:dts:No matter how some might try to show Islam as a peaceful religion we hear such incidents every now and then, now I understand their objection to alcohol and improper dressing of women BUT smashing crosses is not acceptable at all.
Hear, hear! Their objections are one thing, but these actions are absolutely terrible. Nothing justifies them.
Orthodox and Eastern Catholic women also veil themselves, so what exactly is improper about Christian dress, in this case?
About the alcohol…we know that there are differences in the positions of the two religions regarding this, but I don’t think the Muslims understand (or care to understand) the Christian position. Instead they just want to force a Muslim understanding on a non-Muslim people. That is unacceptable to me, as a Christian and as a fellow human being. Do I or any other Christian have the right to desecrate a Muslim mosque or grave because they do not recognize Jesus as the Son of God? No, of course not! And by that same token, they do not have the right to intimidate the Christian community or desecrate its places, just because we Christians will not accept Islam and its ways.
Of course, it happens anyway because of the small numbers and vulnerable position of te community. May God protect all Christians in the birthplace of Christ. It seems that the situation under the new, democratically-elected Palestinian Authority is not good for them. This is not a free Palestine, it is merely exchanging one brutal occupation for another.
Is this really the kind of state that so many Christian and Muslim martyrs have fought together for in non-religious groups like Fat’ah, PFLP, etc.? Did not the Christians also give their lives for their homeland? Don’t they still do so today? Shame on the Muslims who would turn around and devour their brothers once they feel themselves sufficiently in control of the territory! That is sick.
