What if Catholicism is the wrong religion? What if you will not be in heaven because you do not believe in Shiva? Or what if you go to hell because you don’t pray towards mecca? Because your belief that the Catholic Church promotes the right ethical system is not held by most of the world…and frankly, it doesn’t seem more valid than a lot of other ethical systems around the world either.
In Catholicism there are no “what if” because we hold true to our faith. The idea of being wrong is not part of the Catholic Church. The church was founded on truth by Christ and that is what we believe. If you accept this; you accept it. If you don’t; you don’t. That’s all there is to it.

If a religion existed, but acknowledged that they might be wrong, that doesn’t say much for the solidity of that faith.

What’s popular isn’t always right. Look at the apparitions of the Virgin Mary, the Eucharistic miracles. Look at the lives of the Saints (those who lived and breathed Christ) and the miracles involved there. Look at Christ Himself? What other God do you know of that was willing to suffer to that extent for His people?

To me, such a concept of Catholicism being the wrong religion is meaningless, like asking “But what if 2+2 equals 5?” And because I emphatically believe Catholicism to be right, I will follow it as very best I can until I die. I would follow Catholicism even if there was no afterlife.

What if my wife is the wrong one? Maybe I should have married Sally or Jane, or wait and see if someone new and better comes along?

You can live like that OR you can decide “for me and my house, we will serve the Lord”.

This argument does seem highly legalistic. There does seem something fundementally wrong with disallowing husbands and wives to enjoy each other physically.

Where is it explicitly stated as undeniable Catholic dogma, that every act of enjoying each others body and presence must result in the man ejaculating inside his wife.

What of the aging couple who are not always successful in the act of intercourse? In other words, the man (or woman I suppose) cannot quite reach a state where intercourse is possible (or cannot maintain this state), yet can still reach orgasm (yes this is very possible). Is one supposed to round third, head for plate then just call the game over just before the slide? This would seem cruel. It also would be almost unbearable and awful.

Beyond that if one were to hold fast to the idea that the episode MUST end in a manner which might become (emphasis on become) impossible, then fear of failure may result in deep problems between the husband and wife. They may grow distant to one another and give up trying. This simply does not seem right.

I know, the argument wasn’t meant to be serious. But seriously, how is oral sex not an act of love from one spouse to the other? How is an act of love, in a loving monogamous relationship, sinful?
Natural law.

God designed one part of the female body to recieve semen, that is the vagina.

God designed the mouth to recieve nutrition.

Does it make sense to try to consume food through the vagina?

God designed the one pair of body parts for standing, and those are the feet. Those who stand on their hands violate natural law. Don’t even get me started on that girl who shot a bow and arrow with her feet…

That is just silly IMO. If God hated blow jobs so much, why did he make them feel so good?
I don’t know. You could ask him.

But let’s think about this: If God disapproves of malicious gossip so much, why does it just feel so darn pleasurable to commit detraction about a nasty person who makes a profession of power-tripping & getting away with deceptions other people cannot? Why? Because not to reveal the true character faults of another is a commandment, and the commandments are bare-bones directives, with a lot more than that behind them in what they cover. (Good idea to re-read Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount in Matthew while you’re at it.)

I’m just saying in general that you’re reasoning is faulty. A legion of harmful activities and disordered activities feel really, really good. And they felt that way when Jesus walked the earth. (Like insulting someone – also addressed in the Sermon on the Mount, as equivalent to physical violence.)

And yes, as someone else said, it’s really about ejaculation, not foreplay.

ROFL!!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

That absolutely cracks me up!!! You make a great point!!

One thing I do wanna point out about oral sex though, is that oral stimulation IS acceptable for foreplay, so long as it doesn’t end there. Besides, the mouth really isn’t designed for semen. Some women get bad oral infections from having semen in the mouth. (canker sores, inflammed taste buds, etc).

The thing I never understand is why sexual intercourse has become SO BORING to some people that they have to find other (rather odd ways…) of satisfying their desires.

I’m assuming that this is meant to be sarcastic 😉 (They need a sarcasm font, don’t you agree? hehe)

anyway, there is a big difference between what part of your body you are balancing on, and altering the main function of a bodily system. You can’t use your kidneys to pump blood and then choose to use your heart to filter the bloodstream. It doesn’t work that way. Semen really isn’t meant to be received in the mouth, or digested. Besides, why do we feel the need to do that when it’s just as easy to move and put the stuff where God intended it to go when its time?

If that’s the case, why isn’t drinking alcohol a mortal sin? After all, it’s consuming a man-made substance with no nutritional value, for the express purpose of altering, however slightly, the operation of our brain - the very part of our body which most distinguishes us from the animals.

So since the mouth was made to receive nutrition I guess kissing is out of the picture?

First of all there’s the not so little matter of the Blessed Sacrament to consider.

But that said, remember you’re talking about drinking alcohol in a modern context. In an era where fresh, uncontaminated water was not always available, fermented beverages were often the only safe drink. There are still parts of the world where the local beer is safer than the local water!

Secondly many studies have pointed to positive health benefits from moderate drinking.

So drinking alcohol is not a grave sin. Drunkenness is though. But it probably is not a mortal sin for the alcoholic. The distinction between grave and mortal is one of culpability, something often forgotten in these discussions.

How about cigarette smoking? Certainly no health benefit there! How can that not be a mortal sin, while oral sex is?

Something I think we are missing the point of is intent. Why are people engaging in oral sex and deliberatly avoiding intercourse? What is the intent of that? You have to remember that no sin is mortal if the intent isn’t there. What is your intent for drinking? Even getting drunk? It is to relax, or to deal with a problem without turning to God? I believe even moderate social drinking can be a sin when done for the wrong reasons. Why are people enagaging in oral sex? Is it to avoid children? If so, that is a disordered use of the gift os sexual pleasure. Is it because you like it more than sex? Well, I’d say that is a problem stemming from something else. The sexual act is designed to be exciting and pleasurable so our species is driven to procreate. I fin it wholly illogical that oral sex could possibly be more pleasurable than the actual act. And in case you blame that on my gender, my husband finds it illogical as well…

You aren’t altering the system, you’re using the system for something besides its primary purpose- like oh, I dunno, winking. Or snapping.

If two people simple enjoy oral sex, what’s the harm? Who’s to say that the sole purpose of sexual pleasure is to encourage reproduction? It’s obviously a purpose, but can there not be others? It seems to me you’re presuming a lot about God’s intent here.

I wanna use my CD player to make a grilled cheese sandwich because I wanna and it feels good.

One takes smoke into the lungs - not the stomach.

I should have been more detailed - the digestive purpose of the mouth is to take in nutrition.
