I am referring to the fact that for almost a thousand years, the Catholic Church condemned the use of torture, but then condoned the use of it in certain situations in 1200’s.
In what sense is the Church “following the world” in modern times? I’m not seeing it.
She again became the beacon by condemning torturem before the rest of the world did, but there was a dark period in the Church when torture was tolerated instead of being condemned.
