My 18 yr-old daughter wants to go to a tanning salon

Take her to a dermatologist and let them explain the danger of tanning.
 
Skip the tanning bed in favor of a spray tan. Whoever suggested they are harmful…would like to know what that’s based on. The one’s I’ve encountered use vegetable based dyes~absolutely no risk whatsoever to your health. 👍 L’Oreal makes a self-tanning lotion called “Sublime Bronze” available in any Walgreen’s, about $10, good for a couple dozen applications, gives a very nice result.
 
Tanning in a bed is generally safer because it’s controlled. Skin damage happens over time. She’s not going to get skin cancer after a month of tanning a few times a week anymore than you can get lung cancer from smoking one cigarette. I’ve tanned for a few occassions, and my dermatologist says I’m fine. It’s her prom. Let her get slight tan for it. PLEASE don’t have her get a spray tan. They look ridiculous.

Totally agree with this answer. I would let my teenagers tan a couple of times prior to prom. Of all the dangers my teenagers must face … the pressure of sex, drinking, drugs… all the things they will hopefully say NO to… a slight suntan does not even come close to making the list.
