My brother finally confessed to me today that he has been living in sin with another man for the past 4 years. I have known all along, but I knew it was up to him to tell me. I have been praying diligently for him, and I am so thankful that he finally put it out in the open.

He told me he knows it is wrong, he wants to leave his partner, and he knows this relationships is holding him back from living a good Christian life (his lifestyle also has him drinking and smoking pot - something he had given up for a long time!). I want to help him, but I don’t know what the best advice is to give him. He isn’t Catholic, so I can’t recommend the sacraments to help him have the strength to do the right thing. Has anyone else dealth with this and have some advice to offer?

Thanks and God Bless!

I would suggest Celebrate Recovery here is the link of different meetings in MN
celebraterecovery-ne.com/contacts-mn.html

Celebrate Recovery is a Christ Centered program that deals with many problems Chemical Abuse and Sexual Addictions along with others. If he is looking for a way to deal with those problems in a Christ Cetnered way (recovery not conversion is the main thrust)this may be the place for him. Worry about him becoming Catholic later …(my suggestion) Check out the links I tagged under Chemical abuse and sexual addictions. You and your brother are in my prayers.

**This recovery program **:
Is based on Gods Word, the Bible
Is ‘Forward Looking’
Emphasizes personal responsibility
Emphasizes a spiritual commitment to Jesus Christ
Utilizes the truth that we need each other in order to grow spiritually & emotionally
Addresses all types of problems and addictions
Is not based on age, sex, race or religious background

8 PRINCIPLES
  1. Realize I’m not God; I admit that I am powerless to control my tendency to do the wrong thing and my life is unmanageable.
“Happy are those who know they are spiritually poor”
  1. Earnestly believe that God exists, that I matter to Him, and that He has the power to help me recover.
“Happy are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted”
  1. Consciously choose to commit all my life and will to Christ’s care and control.
“Happy are the meek”
  1. Openly examine and confess my faults to God, to myself, and to another person whom I trust.
“Happy are the pure in heart”
  1. Voluntarily submit to any and all changes God wants to make in my life.
“Happy are those whose greatest desire is to do what God requires”
  1. Evaluate all my relationships; Offer forgiveness to those who have hurt me and make amends for harm I’ve done to others when possible, without expecting any reward.
“Happy are the merciful” “Happy are the peacemakers”
  1. Reserve a daily time with God for prayer, Bible reading, and self-examination in order to know God and His will for my life and to gain the power to follow his will.
  2. Yield myself to be used by God to bring this Good News to others, both by my example and by my words.
“Happy are those who are persecuted because they do what God requires”

If he wants to be homosexual, that’s his choice. He is creating far much more pain for himself by leaving people he loves. If you truly love someone, then no one has the right to restrict that love.

So is eternal damnation.

If you truly love God, you don’t chose Hell over Him.

And what if and adult is in love with an under-aged child do we then have the right to restrict that love?

What about if a brother and sister are in love with each other, do we have the right to restrict that love?

How racist. All homosexuals go to hell! God=source of all love. So, in theory, if that love wasn’t meant to be then God wouldn’t have put it in their hearts.

They can’t help it if they love each other. I find that turning love into a sin is the only sinful thing in this matter. And since God is in everyone, loving only brings us closer to him. So can you please explain to me how loving someone of the same gender is worshipping Satan to me? Are you saying that if I love my girlfriend I’ll go to hell because I love someone else other than God, even though God is in my girlfirend because he is in everyone? Are you a nun or something? Sure sounds like one. lol

  1. If the child is under aged, it hasn’t fully developed it’s mind yet. So it couldn’t possibly be true love, thus that is why we restrict it.
  2. If they truly love each other, then no. I do find homosexuality and the case above weird, but we have to be empathetic of other’s and stop being so close minded. It’s fine if we think it’s a l;ittle weird, but we have no right to take away that love.

All homosexuals do not go to hell. People with same sex attraction that remain chaste are not sinning just an unmarried heterosexuals who remains chaste are not sinning.

We’re not talking about worshipping the devil we’re talking about turning away from the will of God. We don’t get to create a God that fits our lifestyle choices.

And by the way those with same-sex attraction are not a separate race so the racist comment doesn’t make any sense.

So you believe that incest is ok, as long as they love each other.

Loving someone, truly loving someone, is not about warm feelings or selfish needs it’s about sacrificing yourself. Loving someone means you will do whats best for them even when it hurts. It’s one thing to sacrifice my own soul for whatever my desires are but if you are willing to sacrifice the soul of another that is not love at all.

God help any child who crosses your path.

I do belive there is a bible passage about this “If any man come unto me and hate not his father nor his mother, and wife and children, and brethern, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple” Luke 14:26

God calls for us to love him above all else. One who loves God must choose him over all else, inculding those he loves. Given that homosexual sex is against christian teaching, it is correct to say that if a homosexual loves God he must give up his sinful life.

I want to help him, but I don’t know what the best advice is to give him.
You might want to check out the website couragerc.org/ and see whether you think it might appeal to him. Courage is a Catholic apostolate, but it seems that any Christian struggling with homosexuality might benefit from the information found there.

Thanks for the resources, Bennie P and PhilotheaZ! I appreciate it!
