My cousin won't let me attend mass with her

There is a difference between giving someone the cold shoulder and not wanting to do certain activities wish them. For example, I am a horrible soccer player. I can understand when people want to get a good competitive game going they don’t want me there. The same thing with mass. I can be kind to everyone, but mass is my hour with the Lord and I want to sit with people who take it as seriously as me. I never said they can’t go on their own and sit in the same church

I think you need to get out the Gospel and read about all the sorts of sinners that our Lord hung out with. I hardly believe that he would approve of US refusing to take a sinner to Mass with us. Their sin is between the person and Him. OUR job is to encourage them to come to the Lord, and that includes MASS.

ETA to clarify that I am in no way referring to the OP as the sinner here. I’m speaking in generalities. The state of her soul is none of my business.

Personally I don’t like attending Mass with those I know who are openly defying the Church’s teachings – I have members of my family who I know take communion when they KNOW they shouldn’t. My thought is that’s between them and God, but it makes me cringe that they are flaunting the teachings of the Church when I know they know better. And I would feel the same attending Mass with you IF you were flaunting the Church’s teachings – i.e., openly engaging in the lifestyle of SSA. Would I be rude to you? No. I probably would have a conflict come up and would have to attend Mass at a different time than you. You would NEVER know the reason I was attending Mass at a different time. Or I would attend Mass with you and just use that time to pray for you choices.

BUT as it appears that you are not engaging in the lifestyle and are choosing to remain celibate unless and until you marry a man, then I say good for you!!! Your cousin is being a hypocrite and her parents are too afraid to call her on it – but that’s an indictment on their parenting and not on YOU!!! Unfortunately that’s a big problem in our culture today, parents who are afraid to be parents!! If I were you, I probably would find somewhere else to go for my trip. I’d want to spend my graduation trip doing something fun with people who want to be around me.

The Lord allowed the sinners near Him because He was trying to show them a better way. If someone with SSA asks me to show them a better way, I would take them to mass. I am more than happy to share what I know. However, when someone openly tells me they are going to sin, I live and let live. Which means I live and go to church without allowing them to take away from my hour with the Lord. I think we need to set an example that following God is important and set a good example. I never said I would not be friendly to people with SSA, I would simply expect them to respect me and that I do take my religions seriously and they can not expect me to change for them.

I have stuck to my guns about certain topics and the people who rolled their eyes at me the most after seeing my convictions years later have come to have an admiration for my devotion. That never would have occurred if I did not follow my conscious
